Very off-putting aroma in the each of the three bottles I tried (on different occasions, bough from separate stores) – as mentioned, probably from the clear bottle. Flavour not bad, a certain nuttiness/licorice flavour that goes down pretty well. Slightly bitter finish, medium to thin body for a stout. Overall, average stout at best, but that smell will not bring me back. ToolHead (235), Frederiksberg, Denmark

Nearly black w/ moderate, tan head. Nicely hoppy, slightly roasted/burnt taste that's sadly let down by a thin, watery mouthfeel.
Gets better as it warms.
Not a very memorable stout. I've still to taste a Wychwood beer that I really like. PetetheMeat (547), Hove, Denmark
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 12, 2004 Dark brown stout, with beige lasting head. Liqourice flavoured with some burned, toasted elements as well. A bit bitterness in the finish. Underlying sweetnes. Not quite the velvety palate that is promised on the label. Overall an average stout. Wheatsheaf (104), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 11/20 | Mar 5, 2004 Bottle. A near-black stout with mahogany highlights. Mild aroma of treacle and roasted malt. Medium body holds more of the same, along with some chocolate notes that manage to linger on the palate for a little while. Decent, but rather plain and lacking any real depth of character. Really not as bad as most ratings would suggest. MrManning (1643), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 24, 2004 Sample- 500 ML bottle- Poured a light brown, cocoa coloured head. Suprisingly, the head lasted the length of me drinking the beer, which I haven't seen often. Aroma is malt and fruit, a nice pleasant odour. Taste is bitter and hoppy, with the hops just barely coming through. Went down smoothy, and left a nice aftertaste in my mouth. A decent stout indeed! JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 15, 2004 Reddish-black coloured stout under a large tan-coloured head. Head fades to lace. Aroma of dark malt, some faint toastiness and even fainter hops. Lacks many of the complexities of other stouts I've had. Very creamy in the mouth, good body. Tastes similar to the smell. Medium length finish with some lasting bitterness. Slightly metallic but not unpleasantly so. Not a bad beer, but not a great one either. Crockett (904), Steelback County, Ontario, Canada

Is it a novelty beer? This is a very poor stout, if it is one at all. Nothing Wychwood does excites me. Crit (2401), New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada
