haddonsman (1234), Derby, Derbyshire, England Jan 19, 2005 Bottled. Thinner than a very thin thing; washy black body, evaporating head, pallid coffee tones and no enjoyable palate. Really disappointing for a Wychwood beer. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England Jan 6, 2005 Bottle from Metro Wines, Syston, Leics. Rather thin looking Stout, with no head. Tinny flavour, with a nasty aftertaste. Metal all the way, lacking thickness, or stickiness. Not great. CampbellWilson (533), Scotland Dec 17, 2004 Agree with Silk, it’s a mild. So why call it stout? Very dark brown. Aroma coffee, chocolate, caramel, malt, all quite subdued. Thin mouthfeel, short finish. Did they say hops? Exactly how much is a broomful? swiseman (200), Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada Dec 12, 2004 very impressed with this one. dark stout with a very sweet initial taste that quickly changes to the more common bitterness. aftertaste does not overpower; light enough to have more than one during the same sitting tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Dec 1, 2004 Chalky roastiness and licorice and chocolate in the aroma. Darkest brown with thin tan head that recedes to partial cover. Sweet milk chocolate flavour with mint and licorice notes and some light roasty bitterness in the salty finish. Smoky character to the aftertaste. Medium-light body is perhaps a touch watery. Bottle (clear). muzzlehatch (4427), Burlington, Vermont, USA Nov 22, 2004 500 ml clear glass bottle. Black licorice color, thick lasting tan head and thick lace. Simple, sweet chocolate candy aroma with a touch of vanilla. Dark chocolate in the mouth, licorice and a hint of mint, late finishing bitterness, thin body, a bit of unpleasant lactic sourness...a mixed bag, but OK overall I guess, not undrinkable anyway. beerhugger (541), Oshawa, Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2004 A stout? Not in my mouth - pours like a dark ale, very dark with ruby edging and a thin frothy tan head. Not much aroma, although it had something resembling some coffee and malt. Same with the flavour - too thin by far and not a lot of richness. Mild coffee and chocolate and perhaps some licorice. Quick slightly bitter finish. Bland. Eructoblaster (1477), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Oct 31, 2004 Bottel - 500ml. Pours a black body with rubyish glints. Its brownish frothy head tends to fade quickly. Fair malty aroma with hints of roasted coffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Taste is OK, but it is a way too bitter and dry for a stout. I suppose that this may be due to clear bottling. Long oaky aftertaste. Not really bad, and probably better on tap.
