Bottel - 500ml. Pours a black body with rubyish glints. Its brownish frothy head tends to fade quickly. Fair malty aroma with hints of roasted coffee, chocolate, and brown sugar. Taste is OK, but it is a way too bitter and dry for a stout. I suppose that this may be due to clear bottling. Long oaky aftertaste. Not really bad, and probably better on tap.

Pretty bad example of a stout. Aroma much like a simple ale. Appearance lacking the blackness of a great stout. And last but not least, it didn’t even taste good, very light and unoffensive.

Slightly transparent dark brown colour w/ beige head. Faint lightly roasty, licorice aroma, w/ a whiff of skunk. Thin feel. Flavour of licorice, milk chocolate, & diesel fuel. Astringent alcohol laden finish. Shades of malt liquor.

How disappointed was I when I opened this beer. I saw it for the first time, and said, sure, I’ll give it a try. Bland and boring with little discernable flavor. There might be an argument to be made for flavors of coffee and chocolate, but I find it highly unlikely. This would have to be the worst stout I’ve ever had. By a long shot.

[Sampled in 2004.] Black as the night and aromanotes of coffeechocs. Flavor is similar, but a bit watery in the end. Could be the bottle and I better rerate thisone another day.

(clear) Bottle. Looks like a typical stout. "Peppery dishwater" aroma was Andrew196's description, and I can't say it any better. Solid but uninteresting flavor. Slimy mouthfeel, bad finish. Drainpour.

Great appearance in both bottle and glass. The nose is quite absent however but for a faint aroma of roasted malt and some slightly coffee flavour. The taste is better at least in the sense that it does demonstrate some good stout qualities but for mine this falls short in mouthfeel and ABV. The promised broom full of hops also fails to sweep me off my feet. Perhaps as my ratebeeriness grows I find I prefer higher ABV beers in styles that should be assrtive and strong. The Pommie penchant for low alcohol is sometimes a negative as is this one.
