Very off-putting aroma in the each of the three bottles I tried (on different occasions, bough from separate stores) – as mentioned, probably from the clear bottle. Flavour not bad, a certain nuttiness/licorice flavour that goes down pretty well. Slightly bitter finish, medium to thin body for a stout. Overall, average stout at best, but that smell will not bring me back. Nate (2540), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | May 12, 2003 Nose has pleasant roasted bitterness, like coffee or chicory, and a bit of tang. Whiff of sweet or bittersweet chocolate. Dark black clear with lacing but small cocoa colored head. Light carb and thich watery (almost oily) body. Taste is a muted roasted sweetness followed by a tangy bitter finish. After is a little bitter and smoky. Somewhat dry. A decent stout. GregClow (2496), Toronto, Ontario, Canada
| 1.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 2/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 6/20 | Sep 20, 2002 I gotta agree with pretty much all of the opinions posted so far. It’s thin and watery, lacking the chewiness that I expect from a stout. A touch of coffee and chocolate in the flavour, but it disappears quickly, and has no aftertaste to speak of. A disappointment. | 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Oct 5, 2005 Bottle (from Sainsburys). Quite a thin beer with an indistinct roast malt flavour - seems like just enough to add colour. Entirely forgettable. KAggie97 (2448), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Jul 15, 2004 A dissapointment to say the least. I expected much more from this one, but like Phil Mickelson in a major, I was let down in the end. (Except for that one time, Phil.) Drew (2409), Kent, Ohio, USA

Starts and finishes watery and bland. A thick shot of almost roasted malt in the middle. Slight hop warmth at the end. barely even a porter, let alone a stout. | 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 4, 2004 Botle - Dark black brew with a nice foamy head with medium retention. Floral aroma coming out of my glass is incredible. Taste is very sweet unlike the irish stout. This is very different and the body is very light. I'm not even sure this is a stout but overall it is not a bad beer.
