Don’t care about the ratings anymore. I had one pint of the Prince Albert on cask that was fine, but otherwise, a waste of my drinking capacity. No more. This one has a thin beige head. Dead choc/coffee malt aroma. Some sourness in mouth with bitter choc kicking in. Lacks depth, character and taste. Thanks Wychwood for the variety, but no thanks Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands

tastes better: roasted malt, some bitterness and some fruit, a little grassy. finishes more bitter and grassy. thin bodied. not so good(no coffee: well only a bit in the finishing part, no chocolate, a pity), a bland stout. JRHBrew (218), Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada

| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Sep 16, 2001 Pretty bad example of a stout. Aroma much like a simple ale. Appearance lacking the blackness of a great stout. And last but not least, it didn’t even taste good, very light and unoffensive. JMerritt (1318), Macomb, Illinois, USA
| 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 7, 2003 Black in color with tinges of red. Head is small, mostly diminishing, and leaves little lacing. Aroma is rather bland; smells like a well-used, empty, and rinsed out coffee-cup. Flavor is slightly coffeeish and lightly malted. Finish is kinda sorta hopped, but its all gone before you can say Abracadabra. By no means is this putrid, but it is a rather light stout. Perhaps a good training stout for beginners? | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Jun 6, 2002 Nice black color, but apparent even on inspection that this would disappoint. Virtually no aroma--or at least, not enough to survive the half-senile old man chain-smoking next to me in the pub, despite the fact that I got my nose so close to the beer that I ended up snorting it into my right nostril. If anything, a faint smokiness like a piece of charcoal you discover in your BBQ grill the next spring after having left it on the patio since the previous September. Oddly large bubbles retained on the glass. Sweet flavor, but without any support through the finish. (cask at Hobgoblin pub, Oxford; a Wychwood pub)
