Cask. Golden colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is honey, wood, some hints of nectar and sap. Flavour is quite much the same, with focus on nectarand honey. Refreshing and good session beer.

Bottle, poured a slightly hazy ambe, no head. A hoppy, but slightly fruity aroma. A good bitter palate, with strog malty flavour. An unsavoury finish.

Cask-conditioned at the Inn on the Green, Bristol. Golden coloured with a moderate white head. Sweet aroma with some tired hops. Flavour of malt with a trudging bitter finish. Seriously dull.

A Mes rate: Cask at the Ffestiniog Railway Station Pub. Another standard drink served in such good condition that it was actually better than usual. It’s straight down the line. Malty bitter with a hoppy finish. Balances out quite well it’s just thoroughly one dimensional.

Bottle conditioned. Copper gold, good lasting white head and good condition. Barely noticable grapefruit citrus hoppiness in the nose, dry and slightly hoppy in the mouth with a low hop fruitiness in the mouth and a yeasty bitter finish with a faint tinny metallic note lingering. Even the slug of yeast in the bottom of the bottle fails to liven things up, on balance i would rather have a chip butty.

Bottle conditioned! That’s really stretching the definition as far as it can go. This is clearly a well cleaned and filtered beer with the merest suggestion of tired yeast thrown in the bottle. About as close to a standard pasteurised bottled bitter as a bottle conditioned beer can get. This is boring, metallic, and quite dreary.
