Grassy and fruity aromas, tart apple, pears and caramel flavors, medium bodied with a prickly carbonated mouthfeel, finishes a bit sour and on the dry side, not bad. A complex mess with flavors going everywhere. mredmond (1), Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA does not count | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 30, 2004 Bottled: Orange brown bronzy in color. Medium creamy head that doesn’t last. Steady carbonation. Label suggests serving slightly chilled, but the taste, though too light and watery, grows on you as it warms. Although it does present a bitter aftertaste with an unhappy finish. I was surprised to learn that this is Wye Valley’s most popular brew. It was a smooth, sllightly fruity ale that lacked body and finish. DanielBrown (1919), Birmingham (via Leicester), West Midlands, England
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 5, 2004 Bottle from Sainsbury, Birmingham. Attractive orange beer, slightly cloudy with a fluffy white head. Tangerine/tropical aroma: sweet and tasty. Upon first sip, starts out like a wheat beer (hefe), before sliding towards bitterness and a malty/tinny finish. Early bubblegum fades away to nowt. Fairly quenching, but the promise is unfulfilled. HOWEVER, by the end, I was quite enjoying this - but it occured to me that the wheat thing may have been because I didn’t keep the sediment in the bottle as I belatedly discovered I was supposed to (upon reading the label). This suggest that the cloudiness may have altered what the beer was meant to taste like... confused?!? Yes. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA

"The Friendly Pint" is the slogan atop the label, with a red-nosed bald bloke below, curiously, with a spoon(?) in his stein. What does "butty bach" mean? I’d really like to know...does it have something to do with Johann Sebastian or...the dark lager, ..except it’s a pale ale, so???
Color: pale orange
Head: nothin’...seriously, none!
Aroma: sweet and fruity (peach, orange), but nothing more
Taste: flat, sullen, still slightly citric, blah, blah, blah...tiniest texture, no, none, very small body, no finish at all...nothing in this 16.9 oz. bottle that I enjoyed at all...a waste...learn from my mistake and avoid, avoid, avoid!!!
If I can make some further comments, it would have to be...Bleh, bleh, blechh!!

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 5, 2004 Highly carbonated bronze color with sticky head and moderate lacing. The is light in malts and loads in everything else. The flavor is metallic and watery. Bland! Bland! Bland! A bit of fruity bitterness in the tail but overall a boring session ale. I’m surprised it’s even 4.5%.
