Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Wholesome Stout, which was voted Supreme Champion at the CAMRA Winter Beer Festival 2002 is produced using only the finest ingredients available. They include Pale malt with roasted barley which produces a rich dark colour. Flaked barley is used to create a full and creamy head. The Stout is flavoured with Northdown hops which give a dry resinous taste.

Rating is of cask version
500ml bottle (Gallows Bird, Espoo, Real Ale Festival 2008) Jet black, healthy head. Smells like an oatmeal stout. Creamy body, some coffee and chocolate. Thick, but very drinkable. No harshness, very smooth. Sessionable. (6-5-6-4-13=3.4)

Cask (St Urho’s, Helsinki, Porter and Stout Days 2009)
Soft sweet roasted malty aroma. Taste is bitter from burntness. A touch of oatmeal too, and milk too in the aroma later. Maybe the burntness is too astringent at times. Maybe not. On the whole very tasty.

Cask conditioned at the Old Tavern Bristol 24/11/07. Near black with a decent tan head. Aroma of chocolate, licorice and a touch of of roasted malt. The flavour had plenty of chocolate and coffee with a decent dry finish. This had a lot more character than the bottled version.

The aroma is chocolaty, and toasty with hazelnuts. The appearance is dark brown with a large head. The flavor is bitter and like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it’s not great.

Sour nose, good head, sourish a tad smokey, and drying. Good in the bottle, I would love to try on tap.

22oz. bottle into pint glass. Pours a deep, dark brown with a THICK than head that laces very well. Heavy aromas of coffee, roasted malts, and chocolate with a slight hint of cinnamon. Flavor is a tad sweet at first with a hint of caramel and has a bitter malt finish with hints of dry grain. Only negative is the thin, over-carbonated mouthfeel. Very nice stout.

Roasted aromas with chocolate covered fruits, and a dapple of Bosco syrup, huge bellowing head, taste is chocolately syrup, and roasted malt, like a chocolate soda, a little more lively and thinner then American Stouts. Bump the body up and you have a 4.0
