Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available bottle conditioned.
Wholesome Stout, which was voted Supreme Champion at the CAMRA Winter Beer Festival 2002 is produced using only the finest ingredients available. They include Pale malt with roasted barley which produces a rich dark colour. Flaked barley is used to create a full and creamy head. The Stout is flavoured with Northdown hops which give a dry resinous taste.

Bottle. Clear dark brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, strong coffee, chocolate, notes of smoke. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (250907)

Bottle at home. Poured beep brown with a hint of red. Not opaque, easy to see light through. Highly carbonated huge off white head filled my pint leaving only an inch of beer. Thick head left serious lacing on the glass. Aroma has hints of espresso. Flavor is sweet with notes of coffee, malt and chocolate although they are less noticeable than I anticipated. Body is thin. I found the finish to be surprisingly mild considering other reviews. Average stout.

This is part of a beer club. Had only one bottle but was decent for the price. Poured great and had a nice finish. Would do again.

Cask (handpump) at GBBF, August 2006. Almost black but a close examination reveals a very slight red tinge. Mild roasted aroma with touches of chocolate. Fairly light bodied with more powdery cocoa and chocolate. Mellow mouthfeel with a touch of dry bitterness on the finish. Quite tasty, wholesome even, but perhaps just lacks a little depth..

Solid black, whispy tan head, light roasted malt aroma and flavor, lots of bitterness, thin and dry, no body here, good or otherwise, although the Maryln Monroe picture on the label has great legs

Clear dark ruby body with a huge frothy tan head. Sweet cohocolate and molassas aroma, slightly tart. Dry molassas flavor with a rather acidic ending.

A Sim rate (50cl bottle from Utobeer): Smells like a rubber tyre with some espresso and raisins thrown in. Creamy and a tinge alcoholic. Tastes similar but with a very bitter finish. Opaque dark brown with a decent head.
