Wholesome Stout, which was voted Supreme Champion at the CAMRA Winter Beer Festival 2002 is produced using only the finest ingredients available. The Stout is flavoured with Northdown hops which give a dry resinous taste.

500 ml bottle, head was freakin huge...i could only get half the bottle in a 20oz glass, and it didnt fade down anytime soon..it sat on top like soft serve ice cream for about 5 minutes.when i finally got down to the beer, i got a healthy nose full of roasted malts, and some fruitiness, along with a bit of hops. flavor was the epitome of a dry stout. the malts were heavy on the roasted side, but not tons of coffee or chocolate, and a solid hoppy tail that balanced off the roastiness. a solidly built and enjoyable beer.

Pours a black color with a brown head. Aroma is of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts, sweet molasses, and some dark fruits. Flavor is strong of roasted malts and coffee, with chocolate, molasses, and dark fruits underneath it. Not too bad.

Thanks to Book_M_Dano for this. 16 oz bottle. Deep brown to black with a ruby hint and a nice frothy head. The aroma is pleasant with light molasses that is a bit sweet with roasted grains and malt. The flavor and body are both astringent. Very bitter with burn malt that I suspect is heavy on the black patent. Not good.

Deep dark beer, nearly black, topped by a thick head of brown sudsy foam. Good head retention and lacing. Roasted malt, stone fruit, and mild chocolate in the aroma. Delicious bittersweet chocolate, roasted barley malt, and strong coffee flavors. A lightly sweetened coffee aftertaste is interesting. Medium body, lots of gentle carbonation. Smooth - nearly silky. Good body fer sure.

This black stout has a huge, nice and lasting nougat-colored head. The aroma has notes of coffee and chocolate. The mouthfeel is round, but not oily. The flavour has a light bitterness with notes of roasted malt, some smoke, much coffee and bitter chocolate. The finish is nice and complex. The initial impression might scare some, but after a few sips it becomes very smooth and easy to drink, and it’s really nice for the less stout-experienced too.

Dark black, little head. Roasty flavor that sits on the palate nicely. Nice and dry. Worth a try.

WHen i cracked the bottle of this and poured into a glass, it was supremly flat, with no head. I wondered had this gone bad?(bought on discount rack at Cellars for 4.79, marked down from six bucks for one bottle!) Not sure, but the smell was strong of booze to me, but who knows. Taste was typical of a stout. Pretty good, but i really only bought it because of the bottle

Not much in the aroma, looks nice. I was very pleased with this beer. Quite heavy for 4.6%, but a great bit of hops and just a nice solid stout.
