Sample at the brewpub. This beer is a clear dark reddish-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily. Thin rings of lacing on the glass. Roasted malt, chocolate and light hops in the nose. Medium-bodied with malt, anise bread, and chocolate flavors with touches of hops in the background. The finish is roasty with a chocolate malt aftertaste that lingers a bit. Above average overall.

On tap at the brewpub, dark brown color, with a small beige head, nice chocolatey praline nose, with a hint of black coffee, with some toasted, roasted malt accents, with a spicy liquorice note in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a good chocolate malt, a light smoky character, with a hint mild black coffee, a dark cocoa chocolatey accent, some toffeeness, leading towards a dark chocolate, mild roasty bitterness finish.
