Draught at the brewpub. Dark brown color, red around the edges. Head was thin, bubbly, and off white. Aroma was of dark chocolate and a hint of vinegar. Tasted of dark chocolate, roasted malt, and coffee. Body was on the light side.

Has a porterish roas coffe aroma with mild stewed raisin notes. red tinted black body with a pinky thin tan head. Light roasty flavor int he fore. Narrow flavor range and not much real taste or feel...a watery weak porter really.

On tap at the Wynkoop Brewery 9/27/06. Opaque in color, head left quickly. Aroma is clean, but dominated by dark malts--almost like a dry stout. Flavor--definite roastiness with some residual sweetness. Finishes dry and light. Overall, originally I tanked this beer, but after reading the BJCP guidelines for a schwarz again, it’s pretty close. I thought it was a little sweet for a schwarz, but evidently a little residual sweetness is acceptable.

Draft 6 oz’er at the brewpub: Side by side with the stout, the only visual difference is the white head on this versus the stout’s tan head ... both dark black brews. This delivered a nice tight licorice-laced flavor with just a hint of chocolate. Good warmer.

Roasty chocolate and licorice aromas, and just a bit of sweetness that transcends into the flavor. Some caramel and dark maltiness, that tastes very chocolately and very fresh. Finishes up with some almond nuttiness in the finish.
