Very strong rosemary smell with hints of peppercorn. Very strong rosemary taste with subtle hops and malt. A very interesting and innovative beer. The aftertaste is a bit watery, but not bad considering the strength of the other flavours. If you goto the brewpub, this one is a must-try! Overall, a very neat beer, which was one of my favourites from the evening! I had this on tap at the brewpub in Denver, Colorado on 12-August-2003. dirtymike (2018), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 1, 2003 Full name is FAEN gruit!
(draught) Fully hazy grey-amber. Slim ring of foam (logical with gruitbier). Peppery, ginger and I really can smell the bog-myrtle. Rosemary - not really, and I have no idea how yarrowroot is supposed to smell. Taste is ginger and medicinal, herbal, spicy - but not off-putting in any way. The spices and all seem to give it a mouthfeel that appears thicker than it really is. Certainly not thin or watery, but not really full-bodied neither. Leaves no spicy aftertaste, strangely. Very interesting - but it will never be a session beer, unless for medieval "poorters"? Volgon (2490), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA

Aroma was nothing but heavy spice (Rosemary) followed by a watery mouthfeel. Had a deep flavor, but I think that there is a good reason that 99% of beers are made with hops. I’d like to try some beers that mix these old spices in beer with hops too. DJMonarch (6941), Northwich, Cheshire, England

Mid brown coloured and slightly rich on the palate with a spicy aroma. Some dryness in a lasting finish. sneagrams3 (1764), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Aroma of spices, mint, and sweet bubblegum. More mint, possibly spearmint in the taste, Also a touch of heather flowers with light bitterness. Hopefully not one of this brewer’s best.
