Opaque, with flotsam in the glass. Smells of coffee, nuts, toast, and sweet fruit. Taste is subtle, but emulates the smells, with coffee roast and not too much bitterness. Very solid alternative to a Sam Adams black lager. TikiE (360), Sylva, North Carolina, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 2, 2008 A beer from South America that doesn’t suck and it’s not a pale lager? Amazing. With all sincerity, this is a really nice beer, let alone a really nice schwarzbier. I’ve had two schwarzbier’s recently that were both really tasty, and that’s always a good thing. A sweet, caramel-like malty aroma, with a very light roasted note. Looking at it you’d think you’d get huge coffee notes but it wasn’t to be. Excellent color, with a fantastic three finger thick tan head. Flavors melded nicely with chocolate malts, black walnuts, and a bit of molasses. Nice beer, no matter where it’s from. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 10/20 | Apr 28, 2008 The beer pours a deep amber black with creamy white head that is thin but mostly lasting. The nose is a light nutty roasted maltyness. The front of the taste is a creamy carbonation with just a hint of roasted malts. The finish is smooth with a slight hint of hops but a definite taste of coffee and nuts. Overall I found the beer to be thin and watery but very drinkable nearbeer (1871), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA
