Feb 23, 2008 Shocked. Quality beer from Coors? Oh! It’s on a different continent than Golden, Colorado. Makes sense now. This is a decent drink. Smooth and subtlely spicy with a mild sour body but sweet upfront presence. A little licorice note. Smells like hell. Mild porter essence is a watery body.

Feb 23, 2008 Good representation of a schwarzbier. Deep brown to black color with a decent tan head. Roasted flavors and sweet. A nice light bodied dark lager.

Feb 22, 2008 Sprecher Black Bavarian introduced me to the Schwarzbier style. This is a nice subtle take on it. It pours dark and thin but with a nice dissipating tan foam. This is a nice lager. Thin and a little watery on the palate but nicely carbonated. It is well balanced but sweet, with lightly roasted malts and a bit of licorice. It was a bit metallic on the finish. Overall, pleasing.

Feb 22, 2008 A differnet sort of beer. Black with a pretty good head. Pleasing aromas with some sweetness in the nose that adds to the taste. Smooth going down.

Feb 15, 2008 Savored from a paper cup outside of Steve’s Pizza--class all the way. The heady foam shrinks away from the wax lining, creating a rocky, richly textured head and rings of lace. Aroma is part macro lager metal but also an undertone of licorice and sweet malt. Flavors are sweet at first but the beer finishes pleasantly dry. Palate is thin.

Feb 13, 2008 I remember when I first tried this beer.. it definitely took me by surprise.. First of all, I absolutely hate licorice.. but apparently not in beer or hard alcohol (Jagermeister)..
If nothing else, this beer is quite unique.
Roasty licorice goodness, with a light/silky mouth-feel.. I would definitely recommend trying this beer.. you won’t be disappointed.

Feb 12, 2008 Updated: Feb 27, 2009Smells nice & roasty but not strong at all. Looks all right, it’s dark opaque black. Head is tan but not as big or fluffy as in the photo. Surprisingly refreshing, lightly fruity, not much roasty flavor. It’s good but certainly not my favorite Schwarz by a long shot.
If you like the style, it’s more than worth trying.
