Commercial Description:

An opaque, full-bodied black lager with mild bitterness. Extravagant treacle and anise aromas. Rich and creamy, well balanced sweet notes and hints of tartness with exceptional mouthfeel, in two words: Black Silk. Imported from Exotic Brazil.

12-oz. Pours deep black, nearly opaque, with a thick moussy tan head. Fairly neutral nose with bits of dark fruit and sweat and maybe a bit of wet bread. Not very interesting. Watery body, a bit fizzy, kind of a tart mid-palate with not much on the finish. Possibly the new leader in the best label->most disappointing beer ratio contest.

Rated 10/18/06: Solid Schwarz here, grabbed a single at the local store since the sixer was pushing 10 bucks. Poured into a pint glass, extremely dark with a medium tan head and lots of lacing. Looks like a stout, very nice. Didn’t pick up much of an aroma, slightly earthy. Creamy and exceptionally smooth this is easy on the palate. Flavor is good but I wish it were more abundant. Malty and relatively simple, needs more to stand out.

Hey I thought this was oriental when I bought it! Anyhow, lets go visit Brazil. 12 oz brown bottle with a twist off cap. Twist it off and you barely get any aroma. Once in the mug I do detect a very slight sweetish smell. Pour is very black with reddish brown tinges on the edges. Taste is almost burned black liquorish with a slight shade of annessette. At first I thought I detected some bitter notes but they actually never develop. Pretty mild and well behaved, acts like an american dark lager in your mouth. Carbonation is decent and tingly. Much more acceptable than other offensive schwartz such as Rogue Black Brutal 2007. This is almost as good as Shiner 97, just as well mannered. Overall a very nice brew that I would not hesistate to purchase again if confronted with the oppurtunity. Finish if friendly, free and careless....just lovely. My best schwartzbier so far.

bottle pours black black with a small head. Aroma is of grapes. The glass laces nicely as I drink. Flavor is crisp and malty with a touch grape to it. Finish is malty and sweet. Strange but not bad.

Wanted so much more out of this one. Dark, dark brown with a puffy tan head. Weak aroma fo hazelnut, malt, and pipe tobacco (nice call BBB63). Watery taste of caramel, nuts, and a fake chocolate milkshake. There are much better beers out there.

Bottle and served in my NB worthy glass: Pours a deep brown and nearly opaque topped by a nice frothy beige head and okay lace. The aroma has notes of non-aromatic pipe tobacco, charred malts, hazelnut, earthy yeast esters along with an off-nose of sweaty gym socks. The taste is right down the middle with some nice malt tones, a little sweet nuttiness and even a hint of acidic fruit but there is too much cardboard action for even a Schwarzbier. I found no anise flavors in this beer, darn it all. More akin to a dry stout IMO than to style. The mouth feel is lively but very dry upon the finish. Okay but a tad disappointing. Next to last beer in my mixer sizer...

Sweet, mild oak pleasant aroma. Black with no head. Mild sweetness with notes of caramel and spices. Very smooth and refreshing.
