I absolutely loved this one. I’ve forgotten how absolutely pleasent swartzbieren are. The color was almost pitch black, with just a little off-white head. There were flavors of chocolate and caramel. Hops in there a little. The ad--"Black Silk"-- was a perfect descriptor of the palate.

Pours a deep dark brown with just a hint of ruby red when held to the light Topped by an inch of creamy tan foam. Decent retention, good lacing. Some chocolate and grain in the aroma. Bittersweet chocolate in the initial sip, sweeter chocolate and a little hop presence in subsequent sips. Actually fairly clean tasting, pretty smooth, sweet but not cloying as the flavors are mild and blend together nicely. Some molasses and coffee in the aftertaste. Not quite medium body with great carbonation. Yeah, I could drink this, but would like it more if had a little bolder flavor.

Very interesting and surprising beer. The case caught my eye and I couldn’t find anything else that looked interesting so I picked it up. It poured very dark with some red tints so I was completely assuming a stout flavor. Upon smelling, though, I knew this was not a stout. The first thing I thought of was fruit, with some odd scent in the background. Then after tasting I tasted sweetness. Like a sweetened lager with some bite. I immediately thought there was some odd Brazilian fruit in there, but I was wrong. It could have used a bit more flavor, but I have never tasted a beer like this so I very much enjoyed it.

Pours opaque brown-black with a thin iff-white head that promptly relents to gravity, leaving bits of lacing. Faint metallic aroma with dy grain bits of sour grass. Flavor is lightly toasted grain, moderate hop bitter, and a touch of grassy-sour hop flavor. Thinnish body and palate. Basic, inoffensive and refreshing.

Bottled. Pours a dark, clear reddish brown with a lacy orange head. Aroma of molasses and roasty malt. Light body with medium carbonation. The taste is lightly sweet with some chocolate and nuts. Just a hint of sourness in the finish almost no discernable bitterness. One of the few dark beers in the world that my wife is willing to drink "Not as stinky as most of the beers you make me try!"

This beer looked like a good stout,but it tasted like a pretty good beer.Very unusual.Not much aroma.Just the typical beer aroma.Better than the average beer.I think I tasted some mollasas in the body.Kinda sticky.Slightly bitter.Has a decent body to beer.Worth at least trying.There are much better tasting beers ,but this is pretty good.And it’s BLACK!!

12 oz bottle. NYE, mellow night with a new brew for me. Pours black as expected and a big tan head that disappates. Malty nose, with something more. Taste is a bit thin, nice carbonation and bubbling. Its refreshing and drinkable which is quite surprising for a beer of this color. Thanks for the recomendation Liz.

Aroma of sweet malts. Black with a tan head. Velvety feel, unusual sweetness. Can’t quite figure out what it tastes like. Decent beer.
