This was actually a pretty good beer and it only cost $2.39 at the neighborhood specialty liquor store. It almost tasted like a very light pilsner. docdarby69 (8), USA does not count | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 11, 2004 Nice beer. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Nov 27, 2003 After suffering through Yarpivo's Strong, Ice, Dark and Premium, I suspected they had a style for me and this is it. I have no idea what Yantarnoye means (tasty? refreshing?) but this lager stands head and shoulders above Yarpivo's other dreck, er... output. Yes, the alcohol shows through even thought it's only 5.3%. Yes, the head retention is lacking, but cut them some slack - they're Russian. This is, after all, a flavorful, sweet caramel malty lager with some herbal notes. HermanW (631), Coevorden, Netherlands

Appearance :Colour of late sun , clear with medium fizzy top. Ring of lace shown. Nose :Sweet pale malt nose , grainy with some grassy citric hops on side. Flavour/Palate : Medium bodied, fairly low carbonation for Eastern European lager, semi sticky pale malt with light mineral metallic finish. Late wet leaf touch of hops. Fairly clean and straightforward with out abrasive carbonation or soulless flatness. Half decent.

| 2.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 16, 2003 Malt, licorice aroma. Tinny golden ale flavor. Light hopping, sweetish and somewhat tart. Finings-type gel mouthfeel. Very clear gold, seafoam head. Medium short finish. 'Yantarnoye' apparently means 'amber' but this is just plain lager colored.
