Barrios (852), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 12, 2009 Growler. Pours a sticky off-white head that laces very well. Body is golden, in the growler it’s almost ruby. Smells of caramelized and roasted malts. Flavor is caramel and spicy, resin hops. Finish is bitter and full bodied. Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Jun 26, 2009 On tap at 12 south. Pours a near clear dark almost burnt orange with small khaki head. Nose is sweet, mildy citrus hops, but does not prepare you for the bitter hop overload that eventually overtakes the finish, which is a quite long lasting bitterness. Flavor is actually fairly well balanced with fruity hops and burnt malt. Pretty cool one, but definitely not my favorite of the series. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jun 24, 2009 Draft at 12 south Taproom. Pours an orange amber with a retentive white head. Aroma of fruity esters and floral hops. Lighter side of medium bodied with average carbonation. The pale malts really take a back seat here, but what I can taste is toasty and caramelly, but it quickly countered by an assertive fresh hop bitterness and flavors of orange. The finish is dry and grassy with tons of grapefruit rind. Resin lingers on the palate. I liked lighter malt profile. Definitely let this warm a bit before drinking to get the complexities.
