Commercial Description:
The tan lace clings to the glass as you raise the pint to your lips. Close your eyes and smile as the rich espresso notes fade to a dry, roasted finish. Exceptionally smooth and satisfying. Made with English Pale malt, roasted barley, black patent malt, and flaked barley. Hopped with East Kent Goldings and Target hops, and fermented with our English ale yeast.

Tap. Deep translucency and inky dark brown in color with a ruby touch drawn out when put to light. Lovely, creamy mocha tan head covers the top, and marshmallow like lacing is left on the glass. Burlap sacks, wet dog, erasable pen heads, black patent crushed grains and mulch thrust upon freshly cleaned cotton summarize the nose. Oatmeal stout sweetness is promoted by brown sugar, chocolate milk and touchy toffee accents. This could sub for an iced down skim chocolate milk. Chocolate covered mocha beans and toasted grahams with slightly melted marshmallows come to fruition as well. Mild sweetness and saltiness touches the tongue’s tip. Chocolate malt powder brings things to a close.

Draught. Pours black with amber edges and a thin brown head. The aroma is roasted malt and cream. The palate is very smooth, and the flavor is pleasantly tangy. Grains dominate the flavor, with a smoky bacon flavor close behind, accompanied by some hops. Kind of different, but in a good way.

draught. Black. no head. Aroma is coffee, flat earthy soil, bread, a bit of cream. More coffee in the mouth, some hints of caramel, and smoky bacon. The smoked meat actually blends quite well.

Draught at the brewery. Black pour that allows some deep ruby at hte edge of a tipped glass. Thin head. The aroma is coffee with cocoa powder in the background. Reserved sweetness and little roast barley bitterness make this a smooth drinking, easy quaffing stout. Drifts dangerously close to Porter in flavor.

On tap into shaker glass, Flying Saucer, Nashville. Diacetyl anyone? From the first whiff notes of that butterscotchy taint permeated my senses. The diacetyl was present on the first few tastes as well, and I could tell that the buttery slick crappiness was masking some better things underneath. Eventually, I was able to discern some dry coffee flavor, not as rich as in better coffee beers (like Speedway), but nicely developed nonetheless. I guess you could say there’s roastiness here, but it’s subtle; it’s maybe most noticable as a lingering acridity on the short and uninteresting finish. Dark but not opaque reddish black in the glass with a darkish tan head that was creamy, lace not that sticky kind of slid around on the edge of the glass without attaching. Medium bodied for a stout, it felt hard and slick, kind of filmy, not at all expansive in the mouth and "roomy." I don’t know if I just got a bad sample, but I don’t really have any desire to try it again.

Black, thin brown head. Really pronounced coffee aroma, with notes of prune. Tastes a bit sweeter than I was expecting, with nice flavors of coffee and smoked bacon (no, really). Dries out in the finish. Nicely enjoyable stout. Draft at the Flying Saucer, Nashville.

Pours black with a creamy tan head. Aroma is leather and dark roasted chocolate malt. Mesquite smoky malt flavor with a hop finish. Dark, full-bodied dry palate.
