Commercial Description:
His Majesty 2009 is part one of a two part series of beers celebrating our 1st Anniversary. This year’s model could be called a new world IPA but it doesn’t quite toe the line.

Appearance wise this is the best looking beer think I’ve ever seen. Golden amber with a piercing clarity and a finely meshed white head that persists for most of the glass. Dense aroma of NZ hops that I picked gooseberry, passionfruit, grapefruit and peach out of.First notes in the mouth it tasted like a thick hop fog, but as it warmed and opened it offers soft citrus hops notes followed by a cleansing rich toffee with a gentle yet persistant bitterness. Mouthfeel is as smooth as jesus in velvet sandals. Top drop.

Beervana 09, courtesy of Stu. Pale-copper with medium white head. Sublte (yet strong) hop aroma. Strong hop flavour. starts small and grows enourmous. Full of citrus and other fruit goodness, with a strong of resinous character that gives a bitter finish. underlying malt balances the whole affair. Awesome.

Big!! This is a very big beer, with huge pine resin hop aromas and flavours. Fans of big APA’s will need to try and get there hands on this.

On tap at D4. His Majesty pours a the classic IPA dark amber. The nose is big and hoppy, full of grapefruity citrus with a biscuity sweet malt.
This one is a bitter beast, big bitter grapefruity hops cling to the back of the palate and grow with each sip. After a few it becomes peppery and balances out the toffee malt nicely.
A brutally bitter IPA, yet still very drinkable.

Thanks to Steve at Invercargill Brewery I was able to get a 2L rigger sneak-preview of this little beauty. Shared with friends in Te Anau, I wish I had made notes, but I will do my best. It pours a beautiful deep orange amber. Big, mouthwatering hop aromas of topical fruit and resin. Sweet honey toast and toffee malt flavours support the big hop character perfectly, chewy and slightly oily. The finish is long and very bitter. A delicious IPA! Thanks guys! ADDENDUM: This apparently took a medal at Beervana this year!
