| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 21, 2004 A bit watery but a plesent distictly English beer. Not my favorite type of brew by any means but this was a quality if somewhat hum drum drink. Not bitter to me and it says red ale on the bottle badgerben (3600), Blaine, Minnesota, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2004 Bottle. Poured a dark brown/ruby red colour, very clear, visibly carbonated with a good sized, off-white foamy head. Reasonable lacing. Aroma is yeasty with some caramel. Flavour is bitter and hoppy, with a bitter then sourish finish. Nice and smooth on the palate with a very good mouthfeel for a lower strength beer. A class session beer." rajendra82 (704), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 26, 2004 The body looks orange amber, and borders on light brown in color. It surprised me with its exceptional clarity. The beige head above the beer was about an inch tall and looked luxuriously rich textured. The lace it left was very nice.
The aroma was brighter than most traditional English Ales, I’ve come across. The mild English hops were allowed to play alongside the caramel malt. The taste was soft and soothing malt, but also had a bit of a citric-peppery kick to it. Mouthfeel was light and weak, but that is appropriate for a session beer.
I believe what makes this bitter shine, is that adds in a few IPA like elements. Without them it would be lost in a crowd of similarly dull beers.
