Very mild aroma, almost nonexistent. Caramel-malty flavor with some hops present. Slightly burned and sweetish. Light to medium-bodied palate with balanced carbonation. Typical British ale with added caramel-malt. Not up to its pretty looks - disappointing. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 14, 2004 Beautiful, clear reddish color, with a large, luscious, creamy white head. After that visual introduction, the aroma is a come-down. Rather absent, this nose, some fruit, yeast, malt, earthiness, but only if I root around a bit.
Bright and cheery on the palate, and full of fruity flavor. Smooth and sweet, with a winey quality in the fruitiness showing through. Mouthfeel, though, is a bit too thin. Too, too, too thin. Very mild. Light in body, and alcohol.
"Dirty Dick" "One of the cheekiest ales around" It seems that their marketing ideas outweigh their brewing efforts with this one.
I love Young & Co.'s, but find this brew to be a rather lackluster enterprise.

Sampled from a 16.9 oz brown bottle this beer pours a dark brown color with a medium sized light brown head. There is a mild malty aroma. It has a basic ale flavor and character with absolutely nothing noteworthy in any way. Pleasant but relatively unremarkable. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 5/5 | 5/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Apr 9, 2004 Medium amber w/ a lasting light beige head. Light herbal hop w/ a toffeeish caramel malt; low fruitiness, not much else. Flavor is well balanced to bitter with a bit of a grassy hop character. Light caramel malt, fruitiness a little higher in flavor than aroma, but not much. Lighter body with moderately low carbonation and smooth mouthfeel. Overall pretty lifeless. I'm guessing that the cask version would be much better, but this one is pretty thin. freekyp (906), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA

Slightly malty nose with little hop character. Very smooth mouthfeel with appealing malt characteristics. Lightly hopped and mellow, easy-drinking. A bit of caramel in flavor. Very quaffable!
