Jan 3, 2003 A chestnut brown beer with a fine head. It has a slight fruity and spicy aroma. The flavor is a little flat with no sweetness. It contains notes of a little smoke and chocolate. It doesn’t have the smoothness that bitters usually have. But it ends on a very nice bitterness that lingers. An OK beer, but I rather want my bitters more smooth than this.

Apr 12, 2005 Bottled. Dark copper coloured, huge foamy longlasting beige head, lacing. A bit skunky nose with hints of roast and honey. Smooth flavour which is a bit fruitish at first but then turns pretty skunky. Dry finish and bitter aftertaste.

Jun 6, 2004 Golden-brown colour. Light caramelly taste. Fairy quick. Hint of cardboard. This type of by-the-numbers bland bottled ale is why so many Americans (and others) think English ales aren’t very interesting.
