On draught at Bleachers (Bristol, CT): Poured so black the lights went dim. Pillowy, tan head with great retention and lacing. Nose is of malt extract. The flavor is exceptional, it has a mild chocolate taste at first... and then a half pint down you get what could be the most authentic dark chocolate flavor ever. However, take one taste of this and then take a sip of (sugar loaded) Southern Tier’s Mokah or Choklat... then I can’t help but teeter this rating a bit. I wish Youngs would amp up this ale to an imperial style. It would be bomber. #220 on 26112009 (yay turkey!), DG.

I expected this one to be pretty sweet but it’s not. It still has all the flavor that you would expect, chocolate, coffee bean, and a bitter finish. It’s pretty enjoyable. Goes great with any dessert.

On tap at Coasters. Dark brown, almost black, pour with a creamy light tan head. Roasted malt aroma with a hint of chocolate and coffee. Also some light floral hops are noted. Cocoa flavor, whipped cream, and espresso. Creamy mouthfeel. Flavor vanishes rapidly from the tongue. A good stout.

1 pint bottle. Pours thin dark brown with a two-finger tan head. Aroma and flavor are predominantly chocolate, particularly dark chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chips. There are notes of coffee and roasted malts, but it is a rather one-dimensional beer. I can’t fault it too much though since big chocolate flavor is obviously what they were going for. Mouthfeel is OK, on the thin side and a bit too much carbonation for my tastes. A good stout, and a must try for chocolate lovers.

Pours very dark brown with brown top. Strong bitterish chocolate aroma. Flavor has less chocolate and some very strong roasted malts. Very enjoyable.

Dark brown in color, light brown foamy head, thin pour for a stout. Wonderfully rich aroma of dark bitter chocolate, burnt marshmellows, and coffee. Definite chocolate taste but a tad bitter. I found the palate very dry and way too thin for a stout.

Shapely 500ml bottle. Very dark pour, with a wonderful beige head. This really does smell and tastes like chocolate. Not as dark and bitter as others, in fact, quite milky. Still, not too sweet, but it sacrifices some depth of stoutiness.
