Birdiebeagle (777), Perkasie, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 12, 2009 Draft @ Good Night Irenes Pours a nice black with a good lasting tan head. The head produces great lacing. Has a hearty aroma of caramel, coffee, and chocolate. Has a light carbination. A thick texture. Has a good mouthfeel. A good amount of flavor and a chocolaty aftertaste. Has a heavy body. This is a pretty darn good beer. smcolw (314), Wayland, Massachusetts, USA Apr 10, 2009 Dark, dark brown with a beige head featuring tight bubbles, this stout is very inviting. Aroma wise, I was surprised by the cardboard and plastic smell presence. Additionally, I detected nearly no malt or hop. In the taste department, CHOCOLATE and lots of it. Also present: caramel (as in candy, not the malt). Nice hop finish resulting in a wonderfully balanced beer.
This is a thick and rich beer. It would be an excellent dessert beer, perhaps going best with some strong cheeses. Elwood (654), Leesburg, Virginia, USA Apr 10, 2009 14.9 oz. can. Pours a very dark brown with some amber highlights. The action in the glass is much like a Guinness only a bit creamier. Voluminous creamy tan head. The nose is primarily chocolate and a bit of deep roasted malt. Low carbonation with a very creamy, yet slightly dry mouthfeel. This thing tastes like a chocolate shake. Big milk chocolate notes, a little roasted malt, and even a hit of coffee. It has a nice long chocolate finish. Great lacing all the way down the glass. Light enough to be sessionable but rich enough to have for dessert. Quite tasty! cataphoresis (3), Florida, USA does not count Apr 9, 2009 Very rich chocolate aroma and taste, mild black-to-brown color. Smooth mouthfeel. For some reason, tastes completely different (better) from the bottle than from the can. Avoid the can if possible. HonkeyBra (1264), Lemont, Illinois, USA Apr 7, 2009 Dark pour with creamy tan head. Aroma of chocolate, some roast, a bit of melted plastic. Taste is chocolate, english chocolate. Sweet and rich. Beer seems very filtered and obviously pasteurized. Really, lots of chocolate. Creamy mouthfeel. I’m sure your lady will love this beer. Me? I’ll find something else. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 5, 2009 Strange love here. Aroma is well you guessed it packed full of chocolate. Some roast, but chocolate mainly. It’s appearance is dark sexy white on black layer of love. The flavor is a resounding chocolate, like hershey’s syrup chocolate, very good, kinda like a chocolate orgy and roasty malts. The finish says, another please, another please. It’s smooth and scrumptious. jbye4334 (652), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA Apr 4, 2009 (bottle). Pours a black color. Medium size tan colored head. Moderate lacing. Has a chocolate aroma, and a milk chocolate taste. Flavors of malt and chocolate on the finish. Soft carbonation. RateBeerMan (39), , Tyne & Wear, England Apr 2, 2009 Really nice double chocolate stout - if anything it is a little bit light tasting as I was expecting a pretty full on chocolate flavour so while a tad light for a stout its quite nice all around. Young’s are generally reliable when it comes to beer and they have not disappointed here it has to be said. I also like the label.
