500mL bottle. Pours a deep black colour with a creamy and bubby mocha head that eventually recedes to a lacing. Rich firewood aroma, similar to a pleasant sauna, accented by malts. Initially a smooth tasting beer with a touch of malt. Then a burst of flavour comes in, as rich chocolate and sweet oakiness add to the initial taste. A very smooth, creamy, and filling finish. A complex and exquisite beer.

Aroma is chocolate, taste is chocolate, mouthfeel is, you guessed it, creamy melted chocolate. A very good stout, not as good as their Oatmeal in my opinion.

Bottle. Aroma with sweet fruit and chocolate, a bit starnge mixture. Very dark brown colour with light brown head. Slightly bitter with a bit artificial chocolate taste. Low carbonation.

There is definately a chocolate aroma but the malt does come through strong. Rich looking beer, bit disappointed by the lack of head retention. Very easy beer to drink and there was a bitter dark cholocate aftertaste.

Tap at Stone. Tried this after the Rogue Chocolate Stout, which wasn’t a good idea. The nose is barely perceptable dark fruit. Smoky. No chocolate on the nose at all. Dark in the glass and brown when held to light. Ring around the glass is all I got from foam. No choco in the flavor at all (see note at top). Mellow and rich. Smooth. Bit of cardboard hidden in the flavor. Kinda bland compared to the other 3 stouts I had in this tasting..

From a can this great brew pours a dark black with a nice thick tan head, nice cascading and lots of lacing - aroma of chocolate, malt, and more chocolate. Taste is exactly what you would expect - chocolate. A decent amount of carbonation and nice creamy mouthfeel. This has always been one of my favorites and I would have rated it even higher but I have recently discovered Founders Double Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout which knocks this brew down just a notch.

Bottle. Lives up to the name. Chocolate and more chocolate. Good stuff, but maybe just a touch bitter on the end. And a tad more carbonated than I like.
