Youngs Double Chocolate Stout

500ml bottle. Pours a black body with a dense, creamy, dark brown head. Dissipates very slowly, remains lacy. Nice head retention and a damn sexy looking beer. Aroma is milky sweet. Sugar, chocolate, pale malts, chocolate malts. Very slight notes of roasted grains, oak chips, and nuts, but no real hop presence. Taste is pretty mellow and somewhat disappointing. It almost tastes artificial. Milky, chocolatey, some roasts. Very semi-sweet powdered chocolate drink mix. Medium to light bodied and a dryer finish. Just a very little bit of lingering bitterness from the little bit of roasted barley and slightly sour. Overall, Im not too surprised at my disappointment. I have to remember that the English do a lot of heavy drinking, which is probably why this beer is lighter and lacking the taste and quality I was hoping for. It reminds me of Guiness, but a little better, in that its probably perceived by a lot of people as "thick," when in reality its a pretty watered down stout. Pours a glossy black with a huge, cascading brown rush in the glass. I love that. Leaves a very dense and creamy, whipped batter-like, extremely smooth chocolate milk colored head that takes forever to dissipate and leaves a heavy cream lacing throughout. Aroma of milky and chalky chocolate malts with a nice fruity backing. I don’t remember it being so fruity, but its pleasant. Anyways, has a sugary sweet chocolate whipped cream smell to it with very small amounts of roast. Flavor is soft and milk chocolate. Some more noticeable roasts with more of that surprising fruit. Some citrus, prunes, melons, and peaches in the fruit salad. Finishes slightly roasty and very sweet with lots of milk chocolate and more of that fruit salad. Very creamy and soft body with a subtle dry finish. Overall, definitely an English stout. Distinct English malts and soft bitterness. Much better than I remember. 7,4,7,4,14 = 3.6

Pours black with medium head. Aroma is malty with some chocolate. Mouthfeel was thin. Less body than expected. Chocolatey bitterness. I was nott too impressed. Judging by some of these ratings, I may have to re-rate.

Another great selection I made on what to drink before my daughters indoor track meet. Deep dark brown with a tan creamy head. Sweet aroma of chocolate, roasted malts. Flavor is bittersweet dark chocolate, roasted malts, small amount of coffee. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. I enjoyed this alot.

pours a very dark brown with a nice thick tan head, moderately carbonated, smooth and highly flavored from start to finish with notes of dark chocolate, coffee, and dark roasted grains. did I mention that it is creamy - definitly creamy. This is a stout that I like and is in the same taste category as Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout which I would also recommend.

Very dark brown liquid with little to no opacity and a sticky mocha head. Sweet light chocolate in the aroma that comes through thankfully more bitter in the taste. The smell is milk chocolate or cocoa while the flavor is closer to good dark chocolate but still a tad sweet for me. Nice maltiness provides a good backdrop. Surprisingly dry and pleasant finish. A tad thin and not quite creamy enough. A single bottle is all I want but still a strong dessert beer.

On tap. Double chocolate is right. This beer has the delicious aroma of a rich chocolate malt! Flavor follows, being thick and creamy in the mouthfeel with a rich, chocolatey, malty- but not sugary-sweet taste. Finish is somewhat short, as typical with a nitro. Overall, excellent.

Tap @ Stout in NYC. Wonderful stout. Nutty dark chocolate nose with a chocolate flavor that slowly intensifies after the sip. Slight hazelnut undertones. Nice thick, but not too thick texture.

Bottle. Poured black with thin tan head. Chocolate aroma. Tasted a hint of chocolate. Smooth And creamy to the palate. Very mild finish.
