Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in 500ml bottles and in nitrocans. Also Nitro Keg on Tap
Production moved from Youngs to Wells & Youngs in 2007.
Ingredients: Pale ale and crystal malt, chocolate malt, special blend of sugars, Fuggle and Goldings hops, real dark chocolate and chocolate essence.
Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young's award winning rich, full flavoured dark beer to craft a satisfyingly indulgent, but never overly sweet experience.

Pours black with a very decent, fluffy light-brown head. Milk chocolate, dark malt and dark fruit aromas, maybe a bit of cherry? The flavour is very well balanced for such a full-bodied beer! Milk chocolate, followed by cocoa and dark malt bitterness, chocolatey but not too sweet. Even etter than I remembered!

This is a dear old favorite of mine, the notorious "chocolate pop" we used to try to get my younger brothers to try. The beer pours a black color with a big thick head and plenty of lace. The aroma is strong with mocha coffee and not much else. The flavor has a distinct chocolate milk thing going on with some woodiness, some mocha, but mostly just chocolate. It’s sweet, but it’s miles away from cloying. Still delicious after all these years.

Not only is this beer smooth and rich, it has a mild chocolatety aroma. The beer smells sweet but does not taste sweet - it is just the essence of the chocolate that you taste and smell, it still has a fantastic stout flavour and a fantastic after-taste, not bitter at all, that hint of chocolate lingers. It is fantastic for drinking AND baking!

Bottle. near black with small tan head, Aromas of coffee liquor and choclate. Flavours are probably not as great as the aromas would have you beleive with some toffee, coffee and roasted notes. Body is a little thin

Bottle. Pours near-black with a medium tan head. Some lace. Aroma is of a sweet, rich chocolate and very malty. Flavor is chocolate milk. Very delicious.

Bottle. Poured a jet black with a creamy tan head. Aroma was roasted malts, chocolate, and coffee. Flavor was burnt coffee, malts, and chocolate. medium bodied. Very good beer.

Pours jet black into a pint glass. Aroma is very dark chocolate. Flavour is disappointing though - metallic, weak chocolate, with a somewhat unpleasant aftertaste. A very overrated stout, but still drinkable.

Um soooo good, no joke. On tap at the Beer Engine. The smell alone is ridiculous -- like super smooth sweet dark chocolate blended with sweetened condensed milk. The flavor is surprisingly much much lighter than the aroma would suggest. Smooth, delicious, happiness in a glass.
