kieleszd (83), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA Apr 24, 2008 Very nice Stout, pours with a great head great malt taste with coffee and chocolate, but does not compare to Bells Double Cream Stout carruthm (1109), Seattle, Washington, USA Apr 24, 2008 Updated: Aug 11, 2008dark brown/black pour with a big airy brown head that lingers. aroma is soft, but the taste is unmistakable. Like a smooth chocolate milkshake, but better and with alcohol added. Finish is the standard stout finish. rwgould (58), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Apr 23, 2008 Pours an opaque, dark brown with a muddy head. Not very strong aroma, but smells faintly of chocolate and malt. Palate is smooth. Each sip begins with a sweet flavour, reminiscent of a citrus soda. This is followed by an overwhelmingly bitter and foul taste that lingers. Nasty. Was unable to finish. Brewbie (217), New York, USA Apr 18, 2008 bottle. dark with a big foamy tan head. was expecting heavy chocolate aroma that wasn’t there. creamy with a heavy sweet cocoa and sweet chocolate taste and an odd little taste at the end. good occasional beer Hinez57 (129), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Apr 17, 2008 Nice dark malt, chocolate, and slight coffee on the nose. Very dark black with red hilights, great head disappears too fast. Deep roasted malt flavors with lots of chocolate, coffee, and a hint of nuttiness. Chocolate dominates flavor and finish, but not to the point of messing up the balance. Mouthfeel could be slightly thicker, but is still nice. Overall a very good example of a style I love. Wonderful flavors, aroma, and texture. Will have another asap, slightly more drinkable than Rouge Choc Stout, and almost as good, lacks a little complexity. jkm (189), Australia Apr 16, 2008 An opaque black beer with a thin tan head. Medium to full bodied with low to average carbonation. Sweet, malty. Chocolate comes through strong in the aroma and the flavour. Low bitterness in the finish. Nothing overly wrong with it, a bit unusual. Not bad but not great either. - 500ml bottle. Thylacine (237), Tasmania, Australia Apr 16, 2008 Bottle - I love chocolate and I love beer. I even like eating chocolate while drinking beer. However this, my first chocolate beer is not that great. It has a nice chocolaty aroma. Colour is dark murky brown, almost black. Flavour is dominated by an artificial chocolate taste and and burnt ashy flavour which I like. Medium carbonation and body. Lightly bitter finish with a bit of a chemical aftertaste. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Apr 16, 2008 So this one smells of chocolate, looks of chocolate, and tastes of chocolate. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do it on a grand scale. With a name like "Double Chocolate Stout", one would expect to double the intensity of aroma, appearance, and flavor. Just comes up short on all categories. Tasty, yes...twice as tasty as other "chocolate stouts"...NOT SO MUCH!!!
