CaptBier (301), Birmingham, Alabama, USA Mar 31, 2008 Bottle. A black beer with a beautiful brown head that dissipates quickly. It has the aroma of smoked malt and tastes of chocolate and smoked malt - a real stout taste. A really good stout. haggis03a3 (132), Piedmont, California, USA Mar 30, 2008 Can. The can was rolling around in a bag in the back seat of the car I was riding in, punctured itself on something and started spewing stout a block from home. I stemmed the flow with my thumb and immediately poured it when I got home. So, the nitro thing didn’t have a chance to work quite right. I had no head with my pour. Chocolate and malt aroma. It tasted like a dark chocolate bar - not too sweet with the roasted malt character. The palate is nitro smooth with low carbonation. It was a good stout for dessert. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Mar 30, 2008 Updated: Jun 17, 2008(Sample from July 28, 2006 Beer Club Meeting; From bottle at Spider House on March 30, 2008; On draft at Draught House on June 14, 2008) Heavy dark tan head, which diminishes slowly but maintains a thin layer through most of the drink. No carbonation (fine with me). Head leaves behind spotty lacing. Smells of... chocolate. Go figure. Then I thought, "roasted!" Caramel? Medium body, leaves a tickle on the tongue. Taste of moderately musky chocolate. Can hardly taste any alcohol - oh because it’s only 5.2% ABV. I guess that’s why I prefer me an imperial stout. Fun to drink because of the prominent choco factor and you almost forget it’s actually a beer. Smooth going down, easy to drink, and the only aftertaste is from the light choc-film left on the sides of your cheeks and tongue. Can’t go wrong with this beer... unless you have a serious aversion to chocolate. Imperial-John (154), Mississauga, Ontario, Canada Mar 29, 2008 LCBO bottle. Black with tan foamy head that coats glass. Smells of enticing milk chocolate. Taste is a bit disappointing after enticing aroma. It is a stout but the chocolate taste expected is mostly lacking except in the after-taste. Had this on tap at Cole’s in Buffalo and I was blown away but that taste is not captured in the bottle, too bad. southamptonsam (81), New York, USA Mar 28, 2008 I generally look for heavier Imperial Stouts. This has a great nose, a lot of lovely chocolate overtones. Sweet, but not too sweet. Good balance. I think this is my favorite British beer. wacohoover (100), Garland, Texas, USA Mar 28, 2008 Bottle - Nice dark color, thick dark head. Not a chocolate flavor with this as some might think, but itstead I feel the name refers to it’s look and roasted flavor. The roasted flavor tends to go overboard at times and can leave a burnt taste in your mouth, but overall, this beer is smooth and creamy. Easy to drink. BMan1113VR (2752), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA Mar 27, 2008 Nitro Can. Pours like nitro, with great lacing on its light brown, mily, two finger width head. Black body. Deep bitter chocolate aroma. Taste is a nice a nice balance of mocha with hops and alcohol. Milky mouthfeel. TheEpeeist (1427), Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 26, 2008 16.9 oz bottle. Dark brown with a coating beige head. Smells like a chocolate malted with coffee. Almost medium with a smooth tang. Taste is iced coffee and chocolate egg cream. Dry finish, lightly bitter. Great balance, easy to drink.
