smith4498 (825), Miami, Florida, USA Mar 3, 2008 Poured black with light brown head. Aromas of chocolate (of course), burnt malts, coffee. Starts with moderate sweeetness and chocolate flavors but not too overwhelming. Finishes bitter. Body is medium, not as full as I was expecting. Texture was creamy with a slighly fizzy carbonation. Pretty good but not my thing. idbowman82 (62), Painesville, Ohio, USA Mar 2, 2008 Quite good, actually. Not generally a fan of chocolate stouts, but this was good.
Thick pour, very little head. Pours opaque and black. Aroma is the obvious chocolate but with hints of vanilla, and coffee. The taste is much like the aroma...quite chocolatey, but not overpoweringly so. The coffee/espresso becomes apparent towards the end of what is a smooth, lingering finish. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Mar 2, 2008 Bottle poured into pint glass- poured black, non transparent, tan head formed and lasted. Aroma of darkened roasted malts, dark molasses, with vanilla and chocolate notes coming through cleanly. Hits the mouth with a nice thick and wide body, aromas more pronounced in the taste, finish lets you know that you will need another swallow in a few moments. Where did my cigar cutter go... carmody08 (4), Canada does not count Mar 1, 2008 Fantastic chocolate stout! I was expecting it to be very chocolaty, but I found it to strike a perfect balance where the chocolate was clearly present but not overpowering. I’ll be making sure I stock up on this one. Hopdup (71), Tampa, Florida, USA Mar 1, 2008 Bottle. A great bitter stoudt, Strong hints of cocoa in the Aroma and the taste. Very dark in color and is overall a great stout. Great when poured like a black and tan, over a fruity rasberry beer , It tastes like a chocolate covered cherry. Juelze (889), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours a black color with creamy tan head. Aroma is intensely milk chocolate and light roasted malts. Taste is much the same with milk chocolate and light hop finish. Almost like Southern Tier’s Choklats little brother. cb23 (97), St. louis, Missouri, USA Feb 27, 2008 Updated: Jan 14, 2009Bottle. Completely black with a creamy tan head. Nose of chocolate and roasted (burnt) coffee notes. Great carbomation. Tasted like cocoa and bitter chocolate. Ended with light roasted coffee and a tiny bit of hop spiciness trying to get through. Pretty good beer. I thought it was a little overbaord on the chocolate, but hey, the name does give fair warning! BeerZack (116), Austin, Texas, USA Feb 27, 2008 Nitro Can!
Jet black, opaque with a one-finger head thats so thick it will leave a foam mustache. Hints of vanilla, chocolate and roasted coffee underneath a vacant blanket of air that seems to mute the smell of the beer. Flavor seems to be on mute as well. A little bit of vanilla and some weak coffee notes struggle through. Mouthfeel is pretty watery unless you can get a good bit of the stiff foamy head in each and every drink. I blame the nitro can for the flaws in this one.
