chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 19, 2008 Pours dark black with a moderate tan head. The aroma is of fudge, dark chocolate, and almost what smells like syrup. The flavor is still sweet, but not as much as the smell would make you think. Very good, chocolate is the only major thing that stands out with this stout. Just a little bit of bitterness. Nice to have this for a stout as a change of pace. MBison (548), Southern Highlands, Australia Feb 19, 2008 Updated: Jul 20, 2008RE-RATE: Bottle (500ml). Poured black with good sized, thick, creamy, brown head which lasted extremely well. Aroma was very chocolate-like (who would have thought) with strong notes of cake batter, milky hot chocolate, coco powder, choc coated cherries and some roasted malts. Flavor was of dusty mud cake with a very mild burnt bitterness, milky hot chocolate, coco powder, roasted malts and a hint of licorice. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, a dry/creamy mouthfeel, thick texture and a long finish. A little artificial.
Original rate: 8/3/8/3/16-3.8.Bottle (500ml). Poured an extremely dark brown (almost black), with a small, tanned, creamy head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was packed with flavor, plenty of rich mud cake, fudge, white chocolate, dark chocolate and some ice coffee to top it off. Flavor was of fudge brownies with mud cake, white chocolate, cappuccino (mild), a subtle bitterness and a smoky finish. Medium bodied with soft carbonation, syrupy texture, super creamy mouthfeel and a long finish. timfoolery (482), California, USA Feb 19, 2008 Bottle. Very tasty stout, using actual chocolate make it more like a beer-shake. I thought the taste was smooth and satisfying. wcampbell (572), Central, South Carolina, USA Feb 17, 2008 A little overrated, but pretty good. Dissapointingly light bodied and weak. Had a cherry cola kind of flavor that I did not appreciate. Lightly sweet chocolatey taste and finish. No hops. Easily drinkable. Not very complex. Angeloregon (2024), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 16, 2008 From a tall pub can--Poured a creamy, lush brown-amber body. Fluffy grey bubbles formed a boisterous, lush head. Nose of chocolate and sweet but not too sweet malts. Crisp and slightly tart. Slick, creamy mouth feel. Finished with an airy cocoa presence. Pretty nice brew! DWestrick (235), Ft Wayne, Indiana, USA Feb 15, 2008 Dark with lots of chocolate taste. First chocolate stout i’ve had but i really liked it! Seems to be a pretty common beer..so I’d like to try some micro chocolate ones. very tasty MaltOne (61), USA Feb 15, 2008 Should be classified as a Sweet Stout. Aroma is sweet and faintly chocolate. Beautiful opaque dark chocolate color with a substantial and lasting, dark khaki head. Semi sweet chocolate flavor. Palate is more chocolate, though thinner mouth feel then one might expect. Tia Maria with out the syrupy cloyiness. It’s good, but I would need to be in the mood for it. Kymeth (4), South Pasadena, California, USA does not count Feb 15, 2008 This is truly delicious. Creamy in glass, and very nice color. Great flavor, clean aftertaste - not bitter or burnt - I especially enjoyed the dryness. Just truly tasty. I will be purchasing this again very soon.
