kringlan (20), Falun, Sweden Feb 8, 2008 Nice! Aroma of chocolate (according to my son: Grandma’s London chocolate) with hints of coffe and burnt wood. Blackish with light brown frothy head. Good lacing. Apart from the obvious chocolate flavour also hints of banana and soured cream. Slightly creamy in texture with a metallic finish. This is a great beer to celebrate the ending of a working week. drubel2 (12), Champaign, Illinois, USA Feb 7, 2008 Bottle from Friar Tuck in Champaign, IL. Pours almost opaque black, with a beautiful beige head. Aroma is strongly dominated by chocolate, with hints of malt, hops and coffee. Taste is a delicious chocolate and malt extravaganza. If you don’t like chocolate, don’t drink this beer. Very heavy mouthfeel with a dry finish. kidmartinek (972), austin, Texas, USA Feb 6, 2008 Updated: Aug 5, 2008A black beer, moderately thick with a 3/8" dark tan frothy head that lasts a long time, the duration of the beer. On the pour it almost looks like chocolate mild, then turing to coffee, then does a continuous bubbling for about a minute. The aroma is of mild malt and a hint of chocolate, and vanilla cavendish. The flavor is bursting with savory hints of toasted malt, hops and chocolate. Texture is like skim milk, but rich and creamy. Finish is of roasted malt and milk. Good lacing. Mmmm delicious. Dinner and desert in one. Prost! blipp (1630), Newark, New Jersey, USA Feb 6, 2008 Bottle. Pours black with a nice brown head. Aroma is mostly dark bittersweet chocolate with a hint of hops and roasted malt. Medium/full body. Very smoky flavor, notes of sweet chocolate, roasted malt and burnt wood. Dry finish. A very good stout. matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Feb 5, 2008 500 ml bottle from a trade with paco. pours very dark brown with a big tan head. looks perfect in the glass. aromas are at first non-existent then sweet chocolate dances out of the glass. aromas are very one dimentional. flavours are also very one dimentional, all chocolate. chocolate from begining to end. suffers from being overly sweet with a mouthfeel that is to thin to be great. id gladly drink this again but it has too many flaws to become a more sought after beer. Chapel (329), Levittown, New York, USA Feb 4, 2008 Great beer all around. Loads of chocolate taste. This particular sample was from a bottle, but I don’t think it would make much of a difference. If you like chocolate, and I mean real chocolate, not just the mild chocolate flavor in some beers, then this is worth a try. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Feb 3, 2008 Pours a deep dark brown color which combined with the beautiful lacing looks like dark chocolate milk. Settles to a deep brown color with a thin tan head. Watching the pour alone is worth the price of addmission. Aroma is lots of chocolate and hops. Flavor is slightly sweet, but not overly so. Lots of dark chocolate on the finish. A great stout. RomanW70 (297), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Feb 3, 2008 Updated: Feb 5, 2008Pours very thick black with uberthick head. Aroma of deep chocolate. Very thick. Flavor of German Chocolate Cake. Medium Carbonation.
