Commercial Description:
Available filtered and pasteurised in 500ml bottles and in nitrocans. Also Nitro Keg on Tap
Production moved from Youngs to Wells & Youngs in 2007.
Ingredients: Pale ale and crystal malt, chocolate malt, special blend of sugars, Fuggle and Goldings hops, real dark chocolate and chocolate essence.
Chocolate malt and real dark chocolate are combined with Young's award winning rich, full flavoured dark beer to craft a satisfyingly indulgent, but never overly sweet experience.

I have had this on tap, from the bottle, and from the nitro-can, and I have got to say the the can is my favorite. It’s like drinking chocolate milk but with some alcohol!

500 ml bottle, nice dark colour with a tan head, that for some reason didn’t last very long at all. I really enjoyed this beer with it’s chocolate and coffee flavours - a beer that seemed to get better as it’s temp raised.

According to the commercial description, they use a lot of chocolate to make this stout. Well, it shows. The nose is full of sweet chocolate, milk chocolate, tells me it’s going to be sweet. Mouthfeel is a little watery which is disappointing. Nice coffee and cocoa taste that cut off all the sugar from the nose.

Whoa, I didn’t expect this to be a nitro beer. Little in the way of roast malt. Very creamy. Chocolate seems rather artificial. Half and half milk texture. I can’t speak to the bottle or tap versions, but in the can, this doesn’t hit the spot for me, at all.

50 cl can. Dark brown body with creamy off-white head. Flavour is roasted malt, chocolate and coffee.

This isn’t one of my favorite beers, but I thought I had better come back and rate it because I’ve found myself drinking it more often lately. Definitely lots of dark chocolate flavors in this. It’s somewhere between Bell’s Expedition Stout and Guinness in the mouthfeel.... a little on the watery side compared to good stuff, but it’s pretty drinkable and is better than most stuff you can buy in a can. Something that you might not know, is that this is a wonderful beer to mix. Try this mixed 50/50 with Lindemans Framboise for a "chocolate covered raspberry" (this is a girl drink, but dudes like it too, it just tastes good), or have this with a couple scoops of ice cream in it for an awesome beer float. That might sound blasphemous, but just try it and you’ll find yourself craving it. =)

This pours with a nice, dark colour suggesting the chocolate and the head likewise. Aroma hints at both chocolate and coffee as does the taste. Gets a bit watery towards the end, though.
