Black body with a decent creamy light brown head. Citrus yeast, floral hops, coriander… just kidding. This is a chocolate stout that tastes – well – chocolate! Roasted malt and sweet dark chocolate. That’s about all I have to say about this beer. Good but not extraordinary. Slightly above average beer for the style.

Slight chocolate aroma, deep brown with a huge long lasting cappuccino head. Chocolate, some coffee and roasted hops bitterness. Fairly smooth and creamy. Good, but I’d like more of a chocolate taste.

Compact 500ml bottle. Bubbly brownish head blanketting the glass while fading away over a very dark, almost black, body. Aroma has a distinctive roasted malty profile. Dark chocolate flavour - additional notes of anise, hops and some roasty barley in a medium long finish.

Pours a nice black with a tall tan head. I think this brew is better out of the pub can, but that may just be me, i wish i could try it on nitro tap. Tons of chocolate and a nice bitterness toward the end for balance. Very smooth and creamy and extremely rich.

Has real chocolate in it! I like it a lot. Bittersweet and roasty. One of Young’s best.

500. Pours deep black with a thick, moussy, very light tan head--thickly stacked, moderately bubbly, but still a great big stout head without a doubt. Nose is fairly neutral for a stout (some chocolate, some roast; nice, but nothing we haven’t seen before, especially in these proportions), though this is a tiny bit colder than it really ought to be. Body is medium and carb is nice and light, The attack is the beautifully subdued complexity you’d expect from Young’s; roast and chocolate and a wee splash of coffee and plenty of impeccably modulated dark malt extravagance. Drinking this beer in the land of Speedway and Shakespeare and Expedition makes you feel like you’re comparing a Jaguar XK-E convertible to a Corvette 427 SC. How do you pick? One might seem the far superior engineering achievement, but the stylistic panache of the other is incomparable. Young’s is definitely stylistically incomparable, though so subdued that the cellaring and repeat drinking possibilities seem rather lower.

Bottle. Dark brown, khaki head that reduced to nothing. Strong chocolate aroma. Chocolate flavours, rich and complex, some fruit, with a dry finish.

Smells like a chocolate milk shake maybe with a little bit of coffee. Pours dark brown with a frothy brown head. Flavor is sweet and chocolatey with some roasty too. Smooth and creamy. An awesome beer.
