I won’t kill it based on this one tasting relative to my others, but it has certainly dropped from the initial 4.5 I gave it. Original rating: One of the nicest heads I’ve ever gotten from a bartender, this one was creamy and nicely crowned. It remained steady throughout. Dark pitch black color with a true chocolate taste, unlike the burnt and coffee flavored stouts that give mild undertones of chocolate. This one was a delight and if you like flavored stouts.... go get one today! Re-rate from bottle, 1/07: Again, a delightful poor from a 500ml bottle, as pretty as the tap. The aroma and flavor were comparable to my earlier tap experiences, althought not AS impressive (keeping the numbers the same). Good blend of chocolate (semi-sweet) flavors in the fore, followed by some roasted chocolate malts in the aftertaste, lightly bittered, keeping this from running away like chocolate candy. I enjoy this one. Boutip (2402), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada

Carbonation is very good with a lighter body then expected. Taste is very smooth with some roasted malts and chocolate taste with a light dry finish. This is a very refreshing beer and easily drinkable. I remember having that beer about five years ago from a bottle and the chocolate taste was more pronounced. Overall, this is an easy to drink stout. Vac (2394), San Diego, California, USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 6, 2007 Rated 7/6/07. 500ml bottle. Black body with deep, dark brown edges. Foamy tan head that settles to a film. Moderate lacing. Aroma is masked a bit when cold, but opens up to a nice mocha as it warms in the glass. Really, the entire experience improves as it warms a bit. Flavors are chocolate and coffee, with a bitter hop kick at the midpoint that settles down to a smooth finish. Nice balance of bittersweet. You would expect a beer with "Double Chocolate" in its name to be overly sweet, but it isn’t. Very good beer. Spiesy (2333), Global Citizen, Greater London, England
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 15, 2003 Bottled. Black with a creamy beige head. Lacy to the finish. Bitter dark chocolate aroma, following through to the tongue. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. Fare enough it’s called chocolate stout, but no beer should taste this much like chocolate?
