(10/24/08) Draught at Blind Tiger in New York. Black-colored with a small creamy stable beige head. Aroma full of chocolate, roasted malt, milk-coffee notes and some nutty hints. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, a bit of dark chocolate but mostly milk chocolate, some sugary hints and a slightly drier finish. Medium-bodied with a creamy mouthfeel. A nice quaffable Stout.

This was a nice relaxing beer....Nice chocolate tones, nice head retention , obvious use of real chocolate, not just chocolate roast. Mouth feel was very smooth. Probably will by again but not something I would drink very often.

ReRate; Bottle. Aroma of roasted malt, some mustiness and euro hops. The flavor is much more prominent than the nitro can version. Nice flavor of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and wood. Nice creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. In the can. Pours black with a light brown head. This tastes real good, like chocolate milk with alcohol but didn’t have enough kick for my personal taste. Very little if no carbonation. Perhaps my can was screwed up. Creamy mouthfeel but it seems too weak to me. It was a nice dessert though.

Bottle 0,5 l at Calthorpe Arms London WC1 26 Apr 06. Completely black. A soapy off-white lasting head. Much chocolate - hardly anything else, but perfect as a dessert.

Dark and nice head. Sweet aroma of chocolate and raosted coffee. Not much else besides sweet cocoa. A bit creamy. Faint bitterness from the dark chocolate.

Bottle - 500ml. Perfectly opaque black body topped with a lasting average off-white creamy head. Very nice malty aroma with chocolate, brown sugar and roasted coffee notes. Same flavors in its complex taste that hides the alcohol perfectly and evolves as the beer gets warmer (expecially for the chocolate hints). Leaves a delicious and lasting bitter/chocolate finish. Wonderful beer. Thanks to Mr. Swanson (we met at Hell Hunt, Tallinn) for brewing such an amazing beer!

[Bottle] Pours dark rootbeer colored with a creamy milky brown froth. Strong vanilla, milk and milk-chocolate aroma. Some chocolate-milk and some smoked peat flavors? Somewhat vinous, pretty English. Easy to pick out both the crystal and chocolate malts. Very mellow beer, not too sweet and quite milky. Slight coffee dryness in the finish. Palate is smooth creamy but on the watery side. Really easy drinking with a nice sharp ale finish.

I have tried other chocolate stouts and wasn’t impressed. As usual Young’s is above the rest of the crowd. This smell was enticing, the flavor was delicious, and it went down very smooth. This makes a great dessert.
