expected this would be gimmicky and stupid but it turned out alright. looks and smells like leftover liquid in a jar of spanish black olives. full-bodied. the chocolate wasn't as over-the-top as i expected, there was less chocolate than plenty of beers with no chocolate in the ingredients. moderate bitterness came as a relief when it started getting a little sticky

Bottle. Creamy light brown excellent mostly lasting head. Dre-brown colour, very dark. Ligth malty aroma, not that much power.. Moderate bitter flavopr, lts of chocolate. Long finish. Soft carbonated but a bit watery for a stout.

Big strong dark chocolate aroma. Dark opaque colour with a line of dense head. Complex swirl of chocolate and bitter roasted malts on the tongue. Thick, velvety, luxurious mouthfeel. It’s not much of a looker but this thick dark chocolatey treat will knock your socks off. Bottle. * *

Rerate - I tried this in a nitro can. The chocolate is more muted. The body is a little thinner and there is more of a head. This comes from the widget. Original rating follows. I thought I was drinking chocolate milk. I truly enjoyed the sweet taste. This is smooth and gets smoother as you drink it. Not especially complex as the chocolate masks other tastes. A good malty smell and has a thick body.

There is a strong aroma of chocolate, arguably backed by toasted malt. It is so dark in color that even halogen light does not penetrate. Really vigorous beige head that laces. Starts with chocolate, thinning to show some toasted malt, bouncing back with chocolate, returning to toasted malt with decent hop bitterness in the finish - accompanied by a resurgence of chocolate. The finish is relatively dry. The only downside is that it turns thin. Hope

Beautiful tan head on top of this black beer. Roasty and chocolate tones dominate, hint of fig. Sweet but not as strong I expected, smooth and creamy, very nice mouthfeel. Minor lingering bitterness. Yummy, not just for dessert.

Bottle at home ... with off white loose foam head ... bit fizzy ... some solid roast malts ... very chocolaty some sweetness but a bitter linger ... its quite a mily chocolate, despite it being dark chocolate essence added. But very smooth and easy drinking

Sept, 2002: Bottle. Contains chocolate essence and real bars of Cadbury’s chocolate melted into the final boil. Silky smooth and deeply delicious, with some smokey flavours lingering around. [3.4]
Dec, 2004: Nitro can. Many brewers have taken the example of Guinness and brought out their stouts in nitro versions. Youngs have now done it with their already creamy chocolate stout and the result is an overkill of smoothness. When pouring the nitrogenated beer out of the can it looks interesting just like liquid chocolate, though it does soon settle into a more normal black stout colour, The chocolate and the nitro does push this too far in the wrong direction. In the <a href=Beer-Ratings.asp?BeerID=55&FanOfID=4383>St Stew Off. this tasted pleasant enough but compared unfavourably with the more interesting chocolate malt flavours of the Titanic Stout.
