DrBayern (951), Morehead City, North Carolina, USA Oct 8, 2005 12 oz. can with wdget. Opaque brown/black with beautiful, creamy lasting head. Smooth malt flavor with notes of chocolate, coffee. Balanced and luxuriant.
hop_lover (138), Corpus Christi, Texas, USA Sep 5, 2008 I need more hops! The balance is way off to me. Way too sweet. Very cloying. I’ve had chocolate stouts that I like very much but not this one. Yuk! SoberCajun (10), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Sep 4, 2008 Pours pitch black with a tan head that all but disappears. Smells like a bar of dark chocolate, taste is well-rounded with a lovely lingering chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel, goes down pretty easy, a nice overall effect. MrAleman (72), guildford, Surrey, England Aug 31, 2008 Amazing how different this tastes to Youngs original, a lovely chocolate stout and is even sold in a Gordon Ramsay pub! Palidor19 (1279), Brandon, Florida, USA Aug 28, 2008 this a nice smooth beer, its bitter but not over powering in the taste, its silky and has a touch of orange like quality. great for the winter. ucusty (1062), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 27, 2008 Black, with somehow a deep purple shine. Dark-greige head, huge but collapsing. Nose gives chocolate, chocolate malt, tobacco, leather, chocolate cake. Taste is essentialy bitter chocolate, roasted malt (which conveys a point of acidity), tobacco of a nicer kind. Unbelievably thin mouthfeel at first, but fills in gradually, as if one would pour cold molten chocolate in water. Long bitter aftertaste, more maltey than chocolatey.
