A slight coffee smell too, but mostly dominated by the chocolate. Appearance is very dark almost black. Nice tan creamy head that dies after a minute or so. Chocolate malt flavor is great. There’s a cream and coffee flavor too but it’s the chocolate that mostly stands out. Aftertaste is relatively short and suprise, it’s also chocolate. Great mouthfeel. I’ve never been a fan of dark beers, but this is incredible. Then again this is not your average dark beer. I know it’s early in my ratings, but I never thought a dark beer would ever top my list. obisbeer (558), Barcelona, Spain

Taste some alcohol, but dominated by chocolate and malts. Creamy on the palate, roasty and smooth,. Quite dry with a slightly bitter finish. Probably the best stout I have ever tasted. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Feb 13, 2003 I love this stout. A beer that even those losers that say "I hate Beer" will enjoy. Pours beautifully into the glass and forms a dark body with an impressive tan head with incredible lacing. Nose is of coffee, cocoa and hints of hops. Flavour is Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate! Finish is slightly bitter and dry. Some go for coffee for a buzz, I prefer this beer. EgonB (19), Halmstad, Sweden

Not as chocolately as I thought but very good. Little hints of bitter. Very nice drink. Doesn't overpower you. I can see how somebody could have this with desert as its very smooth. Some lacing. As one who isn't used to Stouts I honestly have to say if the rest are comparable to this quality it could be another regular to my beer refrigerator. It definitely looks from the exterior like a superior brew. In this case it lives up to the billing. rajendra82 (703), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | May 23, 2004 Purchased in an elegant looking 0.5 liter brown bottle with a regal purple label that exudes an upper crust, classy quality. When poured into an imperial pint glass, the body is deep brown in color and borders on the verge of being completely black, but indicates chocolate colored highlights when held up against the light. Other than the highlights at the edges, not much passes through the dense liquid. The head is a towering layer of foam, at least two inches thick initially, and has the color of a chocolate milk shake. After it dies down, it leaves a rich brown lace around the glass. The aroma is pretty mild, and the chocolate smell is clearly present, but does not overpower the other roasty aromas. Taste is sweet, but not cloyingly so. The chocolate is supplemented by flavors of raisin, rum, and dark roasted coffee. The aftertaste is dry, and has a bit of bitterness to it. The beer is a bit thin on the palette for a stout and has an earthy to chalky mouthfeel. A dark, mild beer, which pacifies your soul as it touches your mouth. Tessic (456), Brantford, Ontario, Canada
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 23, 2004 This beer pours black as tar, with a nice brown head. Aromas of cocoa and oatmeal and a touch of...ginger?!?!
Initial sip is very smooth on the palate with lots of cocoa and molassas. It finishes with a nice, slight bitterness that makes you crave for more!
