Upgraded a few basis points since the last rating. The chocolate character was much more pronounced for me this time around.

’02 comments: Something of a disappointment considering I’ve recently gotten hankerin’s for well-done, sweet stouts. This is actually pretty good stuff, but I was hoping for more robustness and chocolate character. As it is, it’s a pretty standard stout-type drink with mild chocolate character added. A positive most worth meriting mention is that lovely, lovely head. Retains thickness nearly all the way down the glass.

Bottled(500ml). -Black coloured, huge dark brown head, chocolate nose. Slight roasted malt and milk chocolate aroma with notes of dark chocolate and smoke. Smooth, pleasant chocolate finish and chocolate cake like aftertaste.

All I can say is, wow...I definitely get why this is considered a dessert beer. Rich, smooth, creamy head, nice rich dark brown color, dominantly malty and incredibly smooth...A good chocolate aftertaste, not overpowering, just enough to satisfy the taste buds. However, it loses some points because I've had great, and I've had just ok batches of it. If it wasn't for the price, I'd go out and buy myself a case...an upper echelon stout.

Poured pitch black, red lining when held to light. Aroma sweet malts, chocolate, coffee and thin hops. Flavor is very good, fairly well balanced with more malts than hops. Lots of chocolate, raisens, very nice dark chocolate aftertaste. Thick and creamy palate. An impressive stout.

Very nice and dark, like a stout should be. Strong chocolate aroma, but the taste is mostly roasted grains until the finish. Strong chocolate finish. Simple in flavor, but it is a good strong flavor, which is just fine by me.

Has real chocolate in it! I like it a lot. Bittersweet and roasty. One of Young’s best.

I was afraid it would be too sweet, but the chocolate taste is subtle enough so as not to overpower the experience. Great flavor, incredibly smooth, and fairly unique. I love it dispite the disappointing head.
