Smells and tastes more choclate than oatmeal. Roasty taste is there as well, a little thin. Overall, very nice. Ughsmash (4076), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Sep 20, 2007 Bottled, BB 3/2/07. Poured very deep, garnet-tinted brown with a tall, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up soft dried cocoa and flaked oats along with some grassy and mild detergenty hops.. not bad overall, but too muted for my liking. The flavor kicked it up a notch.. cocoa, semi-sweet chocolate, and smooth oats form a tasty base that was surrounded by mild grassy and floral bitterness.. nice flow to it. Lighter-bodied (a bit too far so) and grainy on the palate, leaving powdered cocoa on the finish. Decent brew. Tanker12 (130), USA

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 16, 2007 Well, the Young’s Oatmeal Stout isn’t listed on the Wells-Young’s website either. But, as of September 14, 2007, there were still a lot of bottles of Young’s Oatmeal Stout at Hemingway’s in El Paso, which is lucky because I’m gonna go drink the rest of them when I get paid on September 21st. At any rate, it’s dark brown to black with a small layer of a cream-colored head. The aroma is typical for a stout, roasty and malty. I guess it makes sense that this oatmeal stout is listed as a stout rather than a sweet stout; it did seem a little thinner, or not quite as creamy as, say, the Young’s Double Chocolate. The Oatmeal did, however, have an immediate chocolatey sweetness, which was followed by coffee notes and a bitter finish. This was a good beer that could have been lost to me forever (if the retired tag is indeed correct)! Acknud (792), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 14, 2007 Poured thick and creamy with a long lasting foamy head. Aroma was definitely that of coffee & cream. Flavor was light with a roasted bitterness reminiscent of food coming off of a Hibachi grill. A nice stout suitable for beginners or experienced pallets. Not sure where the ’retired’ designation comes from... jcr (1190), Jasper, Indiana, USA
