Is it really retired? The bottle I have says "Young’s Oatmeal Stout" with "The Ram Brewery in the little ring around the bottleneck. The best by date is Sep. 30, 2007.
Toasty and slightly roasted malt aroma with some raisiny oxidizd character; notes of molasses. Almost opaque dark brown-black with a thick tan ring and little dots on the glass walls. Gentle flavoour for a stout, that has a sweetish molasses flavour and not quite enough burnt bitterness, as is appropriate for the style. The oatmeal does something too, but the body isn’t quite as full as one might expect. I wonder if this beer had had a facelift since it came out of retirement. pintsize (1042), Austin, Texas, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 18, 2007 Bottle. Very dark, almost black in color. Dark caramel colored head - very thick and lasts longer than most. Smells of roasted oats. Almost smells like honey roasted peanuts. Very thick! Quite mild for a stout. Flavorful and has a dry sweetness. Creamy finish with low carbonation. Finishes very smoothly and creamy. More of a dessert beer - I can’t drink a lot of this (very filling). A unique brew and my first oatmeal stout. Juelze (901), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA

Pours a dark brown/black with a tan head that fades slowly. Fair lacing noted. Aroma is strong with black licorice and molasses. Flavor is coffee, anise, dirt, and dark chocolate. On occasion a note of sharp alcohol becomes distinct. Hops are moderate and well balanced. Mouth-feel is smooth, creamy and full. Finish is long and semisweet. Overall this is a great stout.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2007 Black pour basically, with a thick brown staying head. Pours viscous and almost syrupy. Smells a touch sweet, roasty, malty, rich, and hearty. Has a rich, creamy mouthfeel, with some nice light oat flavor. Overall it is actually a touch bland and the flavors don’t pop out at you. Not the most flavorful stout, but it is rich, creamy and easier to drink than most. After reading the bottle, I did notice the slight toast like aftertaste, and its something I could definitely have again. rocbyter (916), Waterbury, Connecticut, USA
