Aroma of cocoa, oatmeal, roasted malt, and some coffee. More malt and semi-sweet chocolate in the taste with strong smoke flavors. Leather, Fuggles, and oats follow. Very nice. fishingnet (1047), Brandon, Florida, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 26, 2007 Bottle. Pours almost black with ruby highlights and a two finger lasting brown head that leaves good lacing. Aroma of coffee, bittersweet chocolate, oats, and roasted malt. Taste is the same as aroma. A small amount of creaminess from the oats but the beer is thin with a very mild amount of bitterness. The aroma and flavor really start to stand out as the beer warms. Good. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Jul 22, 2007 I don’t exactly understand the whole retired status, but I am trying it none the less. The beer is nice and thick; black in color. The beer has a nice chocolate colored head, so the beer looks wonderful. A chocolate and malty smell, but the smell is very faint. I am actually quite disappointed with the smell. The beer is very thin. I do not enjoy the palate. The beer is too much like Guinness in regards to its palate, The flavor though is enjoyable. There are notes of chocolate, ash, wood, and even some leather. The beer has a great taste and appearance, but a not so great palate and aroma. Decent brew. puboflyons (614), New Hampshire, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Jul 22, 2007 1 pt 09. oz. (U.S.) bottle. Expiration date Jan 31, 2008. Pours incredibly dark, nearly black with a creamy, brown head. Rich roasted aroma. Heavy mouthfeel and a definite chocolate flavor (Almost as strong as Hershey’s syrup!). A very smooth brew to the last drop. Excellent overall. Too bad Young’s closed up shop. bhensonb (4355), Woodland, California, USA

Ruby tinged, near opaque brown color with a frothy, lasting tan head. Thin to medium bodied. Moderate carbonation. Sort of chocolate, coffee and toasted malt in that order. Very smooth. Creamy. A dry finish. Near astringent. Decent balancing bitter. Leaves a hint of burnt toast. estoves2 (98), Sweden
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Jul 17, 2007 Black body with a brown froathy head.
Aroma is not strong but it is of roasted malt and some vannila and chocalate.
Flavor has notes of peppery spices in the begining and small roasted malt notes.
When it gets warmer its get more sweet and get tones of chocolate and vanilla.
Palate is smoth and thick. wilderthanyou (421), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jul 16, 2007 I’m not positive this beer is the beer i’m drinking, the beers called Young’s Oatmeal Stout, however it says it is from Young’s Ram Brewery.
The beer pours a pitch black with a creamy stick beighe head. A strong aroma of Caramel, Malts and Chocolate hits the nose and is really quite pleasing. The aroma is a good presentation of the flavours to come with big Caramel flavours with some malt sweetness and a bitter chocolate finish. Really quite good, the only thing they could really improve on is that the beer is not nearly as thing and chewy as it should be for this style of beer. Smooth and full of flavour, a good starter for people looking to try some oatmeal beer. If you like this, see if you can get your hands on a St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout. thenick (746), North Bellmore, New York, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 15, 2007 I don’t understand why this beer is listed as retired, I’ve had it regularly. It pours that dark brown to almost black with the frothy cream-colored head. The aroma is a wonderful mix of malt and oatmeal. This is a great oatmeal stout that has the perfect balance of strong flavor with that "chewy" characteristic that makes heavy stouts meals in and of themselves. Great, great beer.
