The flavor is smooth but full, lingering and sweet. A balanced aroma, just enough bitter. benphillips (5), winter park, Florida, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Feb 21, 2007 A huge lover of oatmeal stouts, this one is a close second to Sam Smith’s. This one is slightly more dry/roasted than Sam Smith’s. Pleasant, sweet aroma, taste of chocolate, molasses and malts, just the right amounts. finishes dry and sweet. silky all the way down, it’s just amazing. shigadeyo (2263), Harrison, Ohio, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 19, 2007 Since the Young’s "Ram Brewery" has closed and many of the Young’s beers are now considered "retired", my friend Rob and I had a Young’s beer tasting on 2/08/2007 so that we could try all of the Young’s brews we could get our hands on before they’re gone...
Tasting Notes (Bottle): Young’s Oatmeal Stout has a dark ruby brown color and a dense tan head that is initially quick huge, but slowly dissipates to a smaller, but lasting head. As a result, there is lots of lacing on the glass from start to finish. The flavor is roasty and dry with a dry, mildly bitter finish. The alcohol is a bit noticable, but not unwelcomed. The body is medium to full...
16.9 oz bottle; 5.2% ABV; 16 May 07 (L6136 10:17Y).
Tasting Notes (Nitro Can): The nitro can version of the Young’s Oatmeal Stout is somwhat more difficult to find (especially now) which is a shame because it is arguably better than the bottled version (in my opinion)... Near black pour with a small, extremely dense and creamy tan-colored head that never does away. There is some vanilla in the aroma. The flavor is a complex blend of roasted malt, coffee, oak (slight oxidation probably), and has some port-like flavors buried deep as well. The finish is very dry (due to some oxidation maybe?). Full bodied and milky on the palate. Always a pleasure to drink...
14.9 oz nitro can; 5.2% ABV; 07 May 05 (64 07E4 20:15).
I will really miss Young’s Oatmeal Stout if the newly branded Wells & Young’s Brewing Company decides not to produce it anymore...

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 14/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Bottle, 500 ml. Dense, creamy light-brown head over a black body. Roasted, dry, lightly burnt and smoked malt aromas. Taste is roasty as well; quite dry, with malt, coffee and bitter chocolate. Surpriningly thin-bodied. Oily mouthfeel. Dry finish. A nice light-weighter. TcTango (48), Tyler, Texas, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 18, 2007 Very pleasable Stout. Pours a very dark brown with slightly aromatic head. The texture is a bit thinner than I had expected, but, all around had a good taste. However, I was a bit surprised to see how many 3.5 and higher ratings this beer has received. I guess it just did not appeal to me as much. This is a good beer, but I highly recommend the Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, or, just going with a Guinness Extra Stout. Doctormirk (100), USA
