2005 vintage 12 oz bottle. Pours a black malty color with a medium sized brownish beige head. Aroma is of slightly burnt malts, oatmeal and old coffee beans. Taste is much like the scent-malty with coffee and oatmeal overtones. Leaves a slight burnt aftertaste.

12 oz. bottle. Young’s Oatmeal Stout has a sweet, chocolatey aroma with no hints of coffee bitterness. It pours a deep, almost opaque dark brown with amber hues and a moderate amount of light brown head. The flavor is tart, dry, and remarkably lemony-sour. The sourness is a bit of a shock at first, but I got used to it as I continued to sip. The sweetness in the flavor increases upon multiple sips, but a chocolate flavor is not present, which is surprising given the aroma. There is a subtle, bitter, coffee finish. The beer is smooth and light bodied, making it easy to drink but not very substantial. Overall, this beer is defined for me primarily by its unique taste, which is intriguing but too sour for my liking.

Pours very dark burgundy, bordering on black. Head is brown-beige and very creamy. Aroma is very roasted and quite sweet. It has a creaminess, and is very roasted to begin with. Then its gets a bit wetery before ending peppery and with another roasted tone (2.9)

[2nd rating]Tap @ The Cockney, Aarhus. Pours pitch-black with a small and very creamy beige head. Aroma is sweet, toffee and light roasted malts. Extremely creamy mouthfeel. Flavour is mild, roasted, soft, caramel (en masse). Sweet and mild - great. (3.6)

This is not retired at Woodman’s in Madison WI, had dfferent label but same name, and quite nice. Classic english understatement. Complex. Coffe and chocolate notes are well restrained. Roasty, creamy yet with a faint metalic taste in the finish. Very faint licorice and lemon and some other fruits I can’t identfy.
