Taste and smell is of a very smooth chocolate taste. It almost tasted like I was having a chocolate milk shake, but with alcohol. It was really smooth and enjoyable, but nothing to jump and shout about. rpattinson (83), Amsterdam, Netherlands
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 6, 2006 Very dark brown, with ruby highlights; fine, dense tan head;:bread, cream, plum and black toffee aroma; sweetish taste with liquorice, black toffee, raisin and nut:aromas; bitter finish with burnt, espresso and liquorice aromas.
Quite a bit better than I expected of a pasteurised beer. Especially the burnt dry finish. Slightly akin to sucking a used match (but much nicer, obviously). Plus a load of malt flavours in the mouth. A beer I would happily drink again. If the brewery weren’t closing. 69 out of 100 on my scale.

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 29, 2006 Beatiful appearance - pours a velvety, swede head that stays put until you chose to drink it. It’s liek pudding, really. The liquid looks liek coffee, not rich, just dark. I don’t find it to be as tasty as Double Chocolate, but it has a heartier flavor and lives up to the standards of Young’s. Palate is oddly watery, though. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 27, 2006 500ml. bottle. Almost as good as their Double Chololate. I know this isn’t a dry stout but it’s better than murphy’s and beamish, but still not better than G. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Aug 26, 2006 Draught at the King’s Arms, Oxford. Slightly astringent brew on the hot day that i tried to enjoy it. Vanilla, oatmeal, and roasted malt evident in this, some ice cream sweetness. Too one-dimensional to satisfy as stout. It’s smooth, for sure, but it’s also a bit bland. elektronikfagtekniker (892), kbh, Denmark

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 10/20 | Aug 9, 2006 Bottle. Rich, light-brown foam. Quite as black as a colour can get. The aroma is something truly special: bbq, fire and sweet chocolate. Strange stuff. The beer tastes bittersweet and has a damp finish. Thick and creamy palate. This beer does not get more than 10/20 since it’s a bit too bitter for my taste. ilikestuff (222), Fort Worth, Texas, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 8, 2006 Looks black unless you put the light dirctly behind it, making it a dark maroon. Nice thick head, almost like a rootbeer float. Has a great sweet aroma, and creamy flavor. Is onr of the smoothest beers I have had.
