A beautifully hand crafted beer with an exceptionally smooth palette and a fruity aroma. A dark, ruby-coloured stout, almost black from a distance, with a beautiful creamy head. Fuggles and Goldings hops. 20% Slovenian Goldings added 10 minutes befofe end of boil.

pours almost pitch black with dark red hues. Thick creamy tan head goes perfect with the guiness i’ve been drinking all st. patty’s day. Sweet hoppy aroma?, a little roastiness to round it out as well. Tastes of roasted barley. Rather quick finish. A decent beer but not so complex.

(500 ml bottle (best by 4/25/06) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/freeport/ target=blank>Derosier’s) This one is very, very dark ruby brown with a soft tan head. Aroma mostly mild coffee, maybe some chocolate and vanilla. Poor lacing. Full smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is mostly bitter coffee and a little chocolate. Taste seems just serviceable, really. Best dimension was mouthfeel.

25.9oz: Pours a very dark brown/black color, brown head, good sized, quickly diminishing. Strong aroma of coffee, molasses, alcohol. Medium body, watery, taste of coffee, sour. Bitter aftertaste, slightly fizzy.

500ml bottle poured a clear brownish black with a lasting brown head. Aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and bitter chocolate. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of smokey roasted malt, dark chocolate and a hint of coffee with a smooth lingering finish.

28 Feb 06 - Sweet roasted choc malt aroma. Black colour, brown head and good suds lacing. Big roasted smoke malt flavour. Bitter smoked malt finish. To me, this beer is nothing special.

Interesting, this brew here... Opaque in the glass, creamy tan diminishing head. Smoke, cherries and coffee to the nose. The first thing I noticed about the flavor was the smoky-bacon that permeates the palate. There also weaves in coffee and a small sweet cherry essence on the backend of the pull. Nice roasted, still smoky-bacon finish makes for a unique stout here. Not one that I’d make my session brew, but definitely one for special occasions.

Another great beer from Young’s. This is a rich deep tasting stout with a slight sweetness. The oatmeal is not as overpowering as Samuel Smith’s but just enough to give it that sweetness. Pours dark with a rich think creamy head.
