Thick creamy tan head goes perfect with the guiness i’ve been drinking all st. patty’s day. Sweet hoppy aroma?, a little roastiness to round it out as well. Tastes of roasted barley. Rather quick finish. A decent beer but not so complex. porterhouse (1156), Alna, Maine, USA

Aroma mostly mild coffee, maybe some chocolate and vanilla. Poor lacing. Full smooth mouthfeel. Flavor is mostly bitter coffee and a little chocolate. Taste seems just serviceable, really. Best dimension was mouthfeel. jujubeast6000 (784), Houston, Texas, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2006 Updated: Jun 24, 2008Interesting, this brew here... Opaque in the glass, creamy tan diminishing head. Smoke, cherries and coffee to the nose. The first thing I noticed about the flavor was the smoky-bacon that permeates the palate. There also weaves in coffee and a small sweet cherry essence on the backend of the pull. Nice roasted, still smoky-bacon finish makes for a unique stout here. Not one that I’d make my session brew, but definitely one for special occasions. trafford (171), Germantown, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2006 Another great beer from Young’s. This is a rich deep tasting stout with a slight sweetness. The oatmeal is not as overpowering as Samuel Smith’s but just enough to give it that sweetness. Pours dark with a rich think creamy head.
