Opaque in the glass, creamy tan diminishing head. Smoke, cherries and coffee to the nose. The first thing I noticed about the flavor was the smoky-bacon that permeates the palate. There also weaves in coffee and a small sweet cherry essence on the backend of the pull. Nice roasted, still smoky-bacon finish makes for a unique stout here. Not one that I’d make my session brew, but definitely one for special occasions. trafford (171), Germantown, Tennessee, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Mar 7, 2006 Another great beer from Young’s. This is a rich deep tasting stout with a slight sweetness. The oatmeal is not as overpowering as Samuel Smith’s but just enough to give it that sweetness. Pours dark with a rich think creamy head. alabamajohn (67), Alabama, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Mar 5, 2006 Looks like an oatmeal stout. Nice hop profile. Most importantly, it is not to sweet. Like dry chocolate. Some more friutyness would make it great. That, and a thicker body. RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA
| 1.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 3/10 | 2/5 | 7/20 | Mar 4, 2006 This beer has an aroma of oatmeal and raisins with a hint of paint thinner in the background. This beer fills the glass with a dark brown solution that rests under a thin almond colored head. This thin beer leaves a coating on the tongue as it deposits a nutty metallic flavor over the palate. Fortunately, this taste turns to mild chocolate one as it is flowing down the throat. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 3, 2006 From a shaped distinctive Young’s narrow neck 1pt. 9oz. brown bottle with a blurb about the stout and a "Best before" date on the back label, 26/Sept/06. Made a good appearance, poured an opaque rudy hued dark chocolate brown with a small, semi-creamy pale tannish head that reduced to a thin lacing. Had a good sweet, smoky roasted barley and oatmeal malty aroma, a little burnt fruitiness and faint whiffs of coffee. Moderate carbonation and a smooth, creamy medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Tasty, a roasted barley and a sweet, smoky oatmeal maltiness, a subtle dark fruitiness, a slight hop zing, a light charcoal and towards the end, a burnt coffeeness and a semi-dry, sweet roasted malty finish.
A very good Oatmeal Stout from one of the world’s better breweries.

| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 22, 2006 Ah great stuff. Mild but pleasant aroma. Pours dark and heady- typical stout. The flavor and the mouthfeel is the kicker with this stout. It’s very easy to drink, with a sweet flavor accompanying the coffee, smokey malts, and toffee flavors. Mouthfeel smooth and silky. At 4 bucks a 4 pack near my house, I think I’ll have some around for a while. morrdt (609), Jacksonville, Florida, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 20, 2006 Pint Bottle, marked best before the end of March 2006. Aroma is dark and malty. Pours a very dark brown with a dark tan head. Slightly bitter coffee like taste with a smooth finish, very little aftertaste. A very satisfying stout for newbies, but not for those seeking the best that is out there.
